The Conduit: Special Edition At Play.com

Gimme gimme gimme

Gimme gimme gimme

Slap in your preorders now folks!

If you’re not exclusively a Nintendo gamer you’ll be used to coming across special edition game releases. Heck almost every game on the Xbox 360 seems to get them now. If you’re a fan of the franchise having all the extra stuff can make you feel quite smug when you know the average man on the street will just have the bog standard green DVD case, you know it will look good next to your Battlestar Galactica DVD boxsets.

Wii games rarely see special edition releases, but Sega are obviously wanting to send out a message with its release of The Conduit. UK based etailer Play.com are offering a special edition which costs just £29.99, the usual price for a Wii game.

Here’s what the special edition will contain:

  • The Conduit game
  • Embossed, silver-effect slipcase packaging
  • Hints & Tips Guide
  • Three unlockable items: Re-skinned all-seeing eye, Agent skin for multiplayer and Drone skin for single-player

If you live in the USA, you might want to check out Gamestop for what looks like a similar package.

If you have been living in a cave for the past year and have missed out on all the hype surrounding this ambitious Wii based FPS then we recommend you catch up with our first impressions by none other than Nintendo Life’s resident studmuffin, Tom.

Is this the same limited collector's edition GameStop is offering when you preorder the Conduit? This looks really cool! I must have this!:)

No, but they are slightly similar. Both contain the additional All-Seeing Eye device and Secret Agent playable character skins, although not the Drone Skin. The main differences is that the Gamestop edition contains an art book featuring concept art throughout the game's development, instead of the Hints and Tips guide and it doesn't have that Silver special edition case.

That's not a bad special edition. Those special slip cases are pretty cool.

It's not just Play that's selling this, Amazon.co.uk also appear to have the special edition.

The pre-order seems ok...its just the not knowing when its going to arrive with PLAY.com....the delivery is free which is great but it will take 3-5 days for the game to arrive, at least with Amazon I could pay more to guarantee my delivery for day 1..."Our FREE UK delivery (including the Channel Islands) for all products from Play.com usually takes 3-5 working days from date of posting."
Damn you PLAY.com
@Wiiloveit...thanks bud, just checked my pre-order since March with Amazon and it seems I'll be getting the above...phew!!..was kinda getting concerned...hopefully my comment will warn others though...

Would there be any sort of lockout or reason a US gamer shouldn't buy this special edition? Gotta admit I'm a sucker for cases that have the words "Special Edition" on them :)

Amazon suck for reliable delivery these days, I would never use them again for preorders. Most of my preorders are done with Play now and they tend to get my order to me a day early without fail. Not everything is shipped from Jersey anymore.

@Swerd_Murd - A EU Wii game won't play on a US Wii console so it's probably not a good idea! You'll be better of buying the GameSpot "limited edition" :-p

@Swerd_Merd - Check out the Gamespot link under the boxart imagery
@Dazza - I found myself running around town to get my hands on a copy of COD:W@W let down by PLAY.com...you win some you lose some, at least with Amazon you know where you stand, you gets what you pay for, they screw up they pay for it.

I preordered my copy at around 3pm today! I'm so excited for this game!

@Terranigma
Thanks for the info! I already preordered my copy from GameStop anyway. I really like that silver slipcase this one comes in but at least I'll be getting the art book in mine. I don't care too much for a hints and tips guide anyway. Its really nice they are actually offering a special edition for no extra cost! I just hope a lot of people buy this game because it looks really good!

I hate those cardboard sleeves. My copy of Smash Bros came with one. It's so pretty that to avoid wearing it out, I dont keep the plastic case in it. I avoid them now, so I don't end up with a draw full of cardboard.

@buxtoc

For some reason, I still have every NES box, SNES box, N64 box, and special edition disc-based boxes, broken down, in a canvas bag somewhere....don't feel too bad about a few extra sleeves :) Maybe one day I'll make a massive laminated game-box-art mural?

This is the kind of special edition I like. Being the same price as the game regularly.

Man, I hope this game is good. And, if it is, I hope it does really well. My fingers are crossed for this one.

Looks pretty cool, but I'm more into getting free OSTs most of the time. I like the outside box covering. It looks very snazzy. :)

WhoKnew

19. WhoKnew United States 03 May 2009, 23:19 BST

June 23rd cannot come any sooner.

Couple of Questions:
When The special edition goes to retail will it be the same price as the regular game? If not, how much more will it cost? And What do they mean by, 'Agent skin for multiplayer and Drone skin for single-player' ?

beastman93

20. beastman93 United States 04 May 2009, 01:38 BST

@WhoKnew
You pre-order it I believe to get the Special Edition here in the States.
They are just different characters to play as. They control the same and everything, but look different.

If anyone can help me out I would like to know when and where to preorder the special edition from. I have an Australian Wii.

Esposch

22. Esposch Australia 04 May 2009, 08:57 BST

@cheese

REALLY? (sarcasm BTW. I can see your flag)
Anyway, European games work on an Aussie Wii without a chip or homebrew. Just look at your game discs! The serial number on most is RVL-XXXX-EUR. Plus I got a few games with European packagings and ratings, purchased at GAME in Australia. American and Japanese games aren't the same, though.

man this game is gonna overload my wii with awsomeness i preorderd the gamestop one

cheese

27. cheese Australia 05 May 2009, 10:22 BST

@Esposch, Yes I realised that we can use the same discs as Europeans but that was not my question (what do you think I am a casual gamer?) but I hate having to import. So what you are saying is that JB, EB and GAME will all have the Special Edition? And yes I realise GAME is a complete rip and that JB is the best of the bunch, but I don't care how much I have to pay to get the Special Edition.

Esposch

28. Esposch Australia 05 May 2009, 12:22 BST

@ Cheese
I was saying you could import the Special Edition from the UK. Plus, I assumed you didn't know about region codings otherwise you would have said "I live in Australia" rather than "I have an Australian Wii."
But for all I know, the Special Edition might not even be available in Australia. Anyway, it's not that great. Just some silly cover and a red skin for an ingame item which you could probably hack on with GeckoOS.
But based on all the bold text it seems you wants, so just wait until closer to the release date or maybe get it from the UK.
