Shia LaBeouf Disses the Wii

Posted Mon, 22 Jun 2009 by Corbie Dillard

Shia's no Wii fan!

Shia's no Wii fan!

Tranformers actor not a big fan of the Wii or its fans.

It seems that actor Shia LaBeouf isn't much of a Nintendo Wii fan. In fact, it appears he's not even that fond of Wii gamers in general.

Below is a snippet taken from the Big Download interview with Shia LaBeouf, in which he's asked about the Wii Transformers game and then decides to unload on the Wii console and anyone that even owns one.

BD: Have you checked out the Wii Transformers game?

SL: I haven't been able to play the Wii game because my hand is broken. I've just been playing Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I would imagine that the Wii experience will be like...I don't mess with the Wii, to be honest with you. It's kind of an amateur console. I'm not into the Wii thing.

BD: What's wrong with the Wii?

SL: This is how in a simple way you can find out if it's a gamer you want to play with. Ask them if they have a Wii. If they say yes, get the f*** out of there.

BD: Is that why you wouldn't play LEGO Star Wars with Megan Fox on the set of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen?

SL: Correct. Who wants to play the Wii version of LEGO Star Wars. I'd rather eat glass.

Well he certainly won't be getting a Christmas card from Nintendo Life this year. What do you think about Shia's disdain for Wii gamers? We'd love to hear what you have to say about it.

Hang on, the Xbox 360 and PS3 controller are way more complicated than the Wii Remote, and all require both hands to play. So how the F**** if his hands are "broken" play the Xbox 360 or PS3 then but not the Wii? Just don't get him that thing that requires to move your arms about for the Xbox 360.

Don't be too hard on him. He grew up on the streets and didn't get a proper education. Apparently his dad made him dress up in a clown suit, so you can imagine it got pretty ugly there. Pretty sad, especially since he was in a Disney movie and that Indiana Jones movie nobody liked. Maybe he'll mature once he hits puberty and ceases his Orlando Bloom wannabe thing going on.

This has to be the most ringing endorsement for the Wii I've seen all year. I mean, seriously? We're supposed to take what LaBeefcake says seriously considering he has absolutely zero talent as an actor to begin with? If Shia likes his 360 more than anything else, than I do believe I'll stay the f*** away from whatever he's playing and stick to this generation's clear winner and best console for tried and true, old-school loving gamers.

Shia sounds like another FPS-obsessed tool.

I can't believe how cheesy and clichéd it was. I had to go to the toilet half-way through which I normally try to avoid, but last night I didn't want to go back in! Last time I failed to enjoy a film that much was when I went to see Peter Jackson's King Kong.

I bet the N64 was his first Nintendo system. Anybody who started out with that probably would turn into a Sony fanboy. By then Nintendo was losing ground and Sony's PS1 was getting more popular. I do like a few Sony games but I'll always be more of a fan of the big N. You don't have to be into the newest technology to be hardcore. You just have to love videogames.

Sabrewing

I don't care if he likes the Wii or not -- diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks and all that -- but that's a surprisingly, well, blunt way of wording it on his part. Wonder what inspired the cussing on his part. You know, what bad gaming experience did he have with it? :P

Speaking of him as an actor, so far, I've seen him in Surf's Up, Transformers, Indy 4 and Eagle Eye. He's not BAD, but... he keeps playing the same character over and over -- the brash hoodlum-wannabe type who has something to prove. Needs to expand his range more.

Bensei

42. Bensei Austria 22 Jun 2009, 10:03 BST

Too less argumetation in his sayings. I he says he hates the Wii because of too much non-gamers or too bad graphics, okay. But throwing all Wii-owners (no, not only fanboys, not only gamers, but just owning one is a crime for him), makes him just another fundamentalistic fanboy, who made a big mistake, because many of his fans, who play Wii, won't buy the Transformers game anymore.

You should watch out what you're saying in public, especially with fanboys. Just ask John Lenon.

He should be more concerned about the reviews in Europe that Transformers 2 the movie is getting. Its been commonly described as "one of the worst movies of all time"....seriously!

Besides, he sounds like another sweaty palmed isolationist who hasn't really tries a Wii properly. I doubt he'd be able to master some of the real high skill level games on the Wii IMHO. ;-p

Oh and I'd rather listen to these guys' opinions on the Wii who are less "famous" than ol' Shia. I think an active athelete's opinion would carry more weight:

I've never been a big fan of his and I think Transformers wouldn't have been any worse without him (or his character for that matter) I also agree with Machu on his opinion of the butchering of Transformers. The rest of his films seem to have been fairly well received (except his early stuff - Monkey Business and The Christmas Path) but overall I'd say he's a largely forgettable actor and tends to ride on films that are recognised for better reason.

No doubt his PR gurus were sniggering their asses off at his comments but hey, if the guy doesn't like Wii that's fine. Maybe he broke his hand when he realized that yet again people are just so much more interested in every other aspect of a film rather than him.

OK OK, this really angers me on SOOOO many levels. I had to personally make an account just to post this. First and foremost, I HATE Shia LeBeouf and I'm angry that he's the star of a good movie like Transformers. I hate that he was in Indy Jones etc. etc. He ruins movies for me. Also in interviews he thinks he's a big deal and he's the kind of guy that I just want to PUNCH in the face. Aside from that I own a Wii, a PS3 and an XBOX 360. All are different, I don't even use the 360 anymore since I found the PS3 was better (like the games, graphics and free online play). So between my PS3 and the Wii, I play the Wii 10 times as much and have more fun. The only games I play for PS3 are NHL 09 (competitive with friends) and Little Big Planet (fun with the gf). But Wii is just full of fun in every game and you can play with friends and have good laughs....So maybe Shia LaDouche does not have any friends to play with :( poor guy. Maybe he should get his attitude checked...ps I HATE Shia LaDouche....GAWD I don't want to see that face in another movie...he angers me!

Judging from the comments here, he'd be right.

Well I could not be happier after reading his words. This guy have big issues with alcohol and with his mother so its the last person on Earth that I would chose as example of good manners. About the mother issues here some words from him in a interview from the magazine Playboy the question was Who he thinks is the sexiest woman this is his answer: ”Probably the sexiest woman I know is my mother. She’s an ethereal angel. Nobody looks like that woman. If I could meet my mother and marry her, I would. I would be with my mother now, if she weren’t my mother, as sick as that sounds.” No comments. Also the reason why some people got upset with his words if he not giving his personal opinion about Nintendo he is making fun of the Wii players and Im not playing Nintendo from the last 20 years to receive lectures from some dude who want to sleep with his mother.

I like him fine in movies and I don't care if he doesn't like the Wii. But since he hasn't played the game on it, or maybe ever tried the Wii, he shouldn't dis it.

I have a PC for playing games the Wii for having some fun on the side and for Wii Fit.

SL: This is how in a simple way you can find out if it's a gamer you want to play with. Ask them if they have a Wii. If they say yes, get the f*** out of there.

I think it's funny, but I'd love to have the chance to ask him what he means by this. LOL. Is he so fearful of the power of Wii gamers that he'd run at the mere sight of one? Or has he been on these forums and comments before? :P

But when you curse at us and say you'd rather eat glass than play the Wii version of Lego Star Wars. You've crossed the line. I don't know about any of you but the 360/PS3 version don't exactly use the extra power. All you get on the 360/PS3 are FPSs that are carbon copies of their prequels.

Why did he have to throw Lego Star Wars under the bus? That's a fun game.

lanafire7

101. lanafire7 United States 22 Jun 2009, 21:44 BST

I agree about name-calling. If you have a negative opinion about a game or console or company, keep it to that. never attack a person for a personal like. Shia went to far by insulting people's personal opinions. "eat glass"? run from megan fox & playing a video game? just strange. I agree I don't like his acting skills, or lack thereof. transformers & Indy Crystal Skull had a hollow void because of him. his personality/characters comes off as, "life is hard, everyone owes me big time because I'm better then you, but I shouldn't have to work to get anything," as if the movie should revolve around him/his "character." forget Harrison Ford, forget Transformers, forget story/plot, this is about SHIA! he did so bad, I hoped his character would be maimed or killed & focus on the military guys.
the only other actor who can suck a decent/good movie to depths of dullness is Christian Bale. he was the only bad part of Batman dark knight. everytime he was on screen, I wanted to scream. he can't stage fight worth a crap (hence wild camera angles) & has as much personality as a corpse, though a good-looking one. I predict that Bale will suck the life from Terminator as well.

Or he'll read all the negativity, and apologise of his own accord.
Or both.

Anyway, this man needs to play No More Heroes and MadWorld. Probably The Conduit too. Okami and Metroid Prime Trilogy would also fit relatively well there.

Jeez folks, chill out. So he slammed the Wii. His loss, big deal. Most of you are reacting like he just set fire to your family. I actually quite like the guy as an actor, though I don't agree with his opinion...but it's his opinion. He's entitled to have it just as much as those people who say "If it's not by Nintendo it's not worth playing"...which is equally as ignorant a statement.

I can't exactly fault him for not feeling the Transformers Wii game, though, it was almost as bad as the movie. Could have been cool if it didn't have the weird camera issue. Same with the movie in fact. Bad editing/pacing, but then thats always the downfall of the hack that is Michael Bay.

Sinclair User

That article made me chuckle. I know quotes can sometimes be taken out of context during interviews, but if that statement is true it's not a great way to gain favour in the eyes of the people who've just employed you to star in a film that's just been released, or the people who just paid top dollar for the licence to produce a game for that film.

Regarding the 'amateur console' statement ... Dissing a majority of fans (or potential fans)? Way to go! What a great way to alienate over 50% of potential game purchasers. XD I've been gaming for over 25 years but I own a Wii. I must be a casual, amateurish gamer.
