Ignition Entertainment and Marvelous Entertainment have just announced that they'll be bringing the hit Japanese RPG Arc Rise Fantasia to US gamers sometime in summer 2010.
The game has already garnered much praise at this year's E3 Expo and looks to be a great turn-based RPG addition to the Wii console's game library. You can check out the full details in the official press release below for more information.
Ignition Entertainment Ltd., a UTV Enterprise, a worldwide publisher and developer of videogames and Marvelous Entertainment announced that Arc Rise Fantasia is releasing in Summer 2010 exclusively for the Nintendo Wii™.
Arc Rise Fantasia, winner of the “Best Wii RPG” from IGN at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2009, is a new turn-based RPG with a beautiful, anime-inspired Japanese art style. Players will jump into the shoes of L’Arc, a calm and composed mercenary, who sets out to defend the Meridian Empire from an impending invasion of ferocious creatures. After assembling a party of friends, each with a unique set of abilities, players will embark on a perilous journey across an overworld filled with deadly enemies and treacherous dungeons. While strategically queuing up attacks, players can summon mystical creatures and work with their party members to execute massive attacks.

Wow, another awesome game coming from Ignition and Marvelous! Ignition has been doing a really good job of bringing these cool Japanese games over to the western audiences of late. I give kudos to Shane Bettenhausen(former EGM staff member) for a job well done. I'm just glad this game is finally coming.

Never enough JRPGs in the world, I say, especially on a system like the Wii, which is on the brink of death as far as this genre is concerned. Definitely looking into this one, and it's probably a safe bet to say I'll be picking it up somewhere along the line.

Somehow I got the idea Rising Star was releasing this before the end of 2009 but there's nothing on their release calendar (Ju On is out tomorrow, though...).

Now that I think about it wasn't this game supposed to be published by XSEED? Ignition ended up publishing Muramasa instead of XSEED too. I hope that things are still okay at XSEED.

@shake_zulu: Yes, Rising Star is a UK-based publisher. I actually know nothing about the game beyond the fact that it's based upon the film (of which I've only seen the Sarah Michelle Gellar film). If I see it in the shop this week-end I might just pick it up to have a look see.
On-topic I'm really looking forward to Arc Rise; I'd love to see a release date from Rising Star of some kind!

I am just glad we have an expected release time frame now, even if it is later than I expected. The Wii is overdue for a game of this sort. I know that Tales game is supposed to be good, but I don't really want to get a sequel to a game I haven't played before.

@Adam: That's the main problem I have with JRPGs, they're too often the millionth installment in a series that I've never played. I know it hardly makes the game unplayable but it puts me off, especially since such games are so story-based

I don't think I've ever seen a series where the stories were actually connected, minus a few exception, and even then playing the previous game(s) isn't usually a requirement. Every game always has a beginning, middle, and end, while the next game always starts anew. There's really nothing to worry about in that regard.
As for this game, it looks very dull and generic in every possible way. In fact, this game pretty much screams "we're aping Final Fantasy/Tales of", which I just find completely offensive. Still, after watching a trailer and looking at some screens, I have to say, the character designs and artwork are fantastic! I hope it has a pre-order bonus involving an Artbook or something, that way I can get to enjoy the character designs without having to play the actual game.
...wait, do you actually have to pick up a game to get the bonuses? Because if not, then this would be even better - I could simply pre-order it and walk away with a $5 artbook!XD

@wolfram - XSEED seems to be ok....they were involved in that Beyond the Yellow Brick Road DS game (RPG--apparently really good graphics but meh battle system...N-Life seems to have missed it
) and announced a followup to the Korg DS 10 that takes advantage of the DSi's special capabilities....I think they're still doing ok....crazy that they lost two projects to Ignition in a row though.
