New GoldenEye Title in Development?

It's almost 15 years old, but GoldenEye still holds a place in many people's hearts

Ex-Eurocom staffer says he's worked on it

Rare's GoldenEye 007 is often regarded as one of the finest video games of all time, so when EA attempted to cash-in on the name with the lackluster GoldenEye: Rogue Agent a few years back, it hardly came as a massive shock.

Now, it would seem that new Bond license-holder Activision is trying the same trick. A former Eurocom staff member has unwittingly exposed the development of a new Wii title codenamed "GoldenEye 2010".

Craig Peck has recently parted company with Eurocom for Team Bondi, the studio behind the promising LA Noire. Peck's CV, which has been leaked onto the net, states that he was involved with "key frame animation, the preparation and clean-up of motion capture data, prop animation, in-game cut-scene animation, scene layout, and camera animation" on the new title.

Activision have yet to comment on the situation, but what we do know is that the next Bond game is being handled by Bizarre Creations. However, Eurocom's name could still be involved, as the firm ported Treyarch's Quantum of Solace to Wii in 2008.

I'm afraid GoldenEye is one of those things that might not ever be able to be replicated again. Sure it was impressive in its day, but the genre has evolved so much since that I'm not sure that it would be possible to capture that lightning in a bottle again. It would be a bit like trying to make a new Donkey Kong Country game. I'm just not sure it would feel as magical now as it did back then.

I would have to agree with you there Corbie. It's just like what I was thinking.

...and all I'm thinking about is how this poor SOB is gonna handle the suits that come after him for breaching his NDA, inadvertently or otherwise.

The guy either confused "Goldeneye" and "Quantum of Solace" or this rumour is true and the Wii is getting a remake of Goldeneye. I kinda feel sorry for the guy. If its a leak no-game company is going to want to hire someone who broke such a huge NDA. If it was a mistake on his end then well, mistakes on resumes never look good. Either way, he is probably going to find it a bit harder to get his job now because of this leak/mistake.

.... or easier now his resume is all over the internets.

There'll never be a proper remake unless its done by Nintendo and Rare and that's not going to happen. Plus a little correction Goldeneye is 12 years old.

The guy in question isn't really at fault for the leak. He was putting perfectly acceptable information on his CV, which is fair enough. I imagine that his CV has been leaked by someone else.

As for the game, I'm guessing it's going to be another GoldenEye: Rogue Agent. There's no way this could be a remake because Nintendo and Rare would throw a fit.

Who cares about that new title? All we want is the Nintendo64 version on Virtual Console or the almost finished remake for XBLA! Thanks Nintendo for obstructing the remake and thereby denying any chance of a VC-release. :(

I don't know what to make of this. Be it a remake of Goldeneye, or a Rogue Agent alike, I look forward to some solid info, especially with ex Rare and Free Radical staff involved.

I like the new 'source' and 'tag' thingymabobs btw.
which I imagine have been there ages, but I'm slow like that

Its not that the original is even technically that great of a game. It was just lots of fun playing 4 player matches against friends. It was the first console fps that wasn't a pc port to get things right and have customizable and enjoyable multiplayer. That said single player wasn't great and aiming was a chore compared to modern games. Framerates really suffered especially in multiplayer matches. It managed to be great for multiplayer fun despite its flaws. The timesplitters games were pretty much the only games to carry on that kind of multplayer fun.

Fun story: I recently traded in my barely-used copy of Rogue Agent for 7.50 credit, when I only paid 5 for it elsewhere. Thats the only good thing I can really say about the title. :P

@Guybrush - The reason why GE won't come is not because Nintendo is eeevil but because is a licence mess with Rare, Microsoft, MGA, Activision and Nintendo.

Stop blaming Nintendo for everything.

The new one should take some pointers for Quantum of Solace. Honestly, I liked that game.

Same, I enjoyed Quantum of Solace a lot. The thing that I don't understand is why they don't just release GoldenEye on XBLA AND Virtual Console (with online support, of course). Multiplatform releases happen all the time, why not with GoldenEye?

I hope it turns out good. The best 007 game I played after GoldenEye was GoldenEye: Rogue Agent which most of the press hated while I loved it to bits.

The next GoldenEye could be as good as the first. If it has; lots of weapons, several multiplayer maps, villians from previous Bond films, gadgets from the films that are not all the same as the first game, and good movement when controlling the player. I have a N64 and GoldenEye, which I am going to set up now.

Sure it would be cool because I loved the movie and I loved the game even more but I'm not holding my breath on this one. Just give the original on the virtual console and I'm cool
