Cake for everyone!

It's a busy time at Nintendo following the company's first quarter results for this financial year, and it's also just released its annual report for the year just gone that contains lots and lots of numbers.

While many of them won't mean anything to anyone without a head for figures, there are some phenomenal numbers in there for Wii gamers.

To date, Nintendo has sold over 86m Wii consoles worldwide, with a colossal 716m Wii games sold since launch. Of those, the biggest-selling Nintendo titles are of course Wii Sports at 76.76m sales, Wii Play at 28.02m and Wii Sports Resort with 27.68m copies shifted so far. Three other Nintendo games have sold over 20m — Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

With the console suffering these days it's easy to forget what an incredible success story the Wii has been for Nintendo. For example, GameCube's biggest selling game was Super Smash Bros. Melee with around 7.09m units sold; Wii's equivalent, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, sold 10.27m units and is still only the 8th best-selling game on the console.

Is this an indication of the sorts of games we'll see on Wii U?
