There were just two games last month, but this time the count will be slightly creeping up again as Japan is scheduled to get three new Wii Virtual Console games. Just like the past few months, D4 continues to show strong support, as two of the new games will be Neo Geo games, while the remaining one is a Famicom title unlikely to see a western release.
Japan's full list for this month is as follows:
Famicom:
- Ganbare Goemon Gaiden: Kieta Ougon Kiseru (May 1st) — A bit of a strange sight to western Goemon fans, this is not a platformer/adventure game like most of the other titles in the series, but rather an RPG.
Neo Geo:
- The Super Spy — One of the more unusual Neo Geo games, this is, believe it or not, a first-person beat 'em up, where you move through levels punching, kicking and shooting enemies through the eyes of your character. There's also hostages to rescue and special power-ups to collect. This one had a western release originally, so it could see the light of day outside Japan eventually.
- Shock Troopers — Two non-fighting games for the Neo Geo in a row this week, as Shock Troopers is a shooter with an overhead view, similar to games like Commando. It's a bit of a cult classic, and it's a bit strange it took this long to appear on VC when it was included in a Neo Geo collection (on Wii, among other platforms) a few years ago.
The 3DS Virtual Console in Japan is also still going strong with about one new game every single week, and the next one is another big hitter — Japan's next 3DS VC game is going to be Wario Land 3, meaning that unless Nintendo adds Virtual Boy support, every possible Wario Land game will be available for purchase.

After I saw “unless Nintendo adds Virtual Boy support” I sort of blacked out. Not because that wouldn’t be cool it would, but rather because it’s almost 3am in the part of the US where I am. As always, thank you Nintendo Life for keeping me up late reading all your great articles!
Well I guess I'll just wait for NA to get some VC love... crickets
I think Marcel should change his profile text. Unless he really is still waiting for La-Mulana on WiiWare.
Shock Troopers is awesome. Please release elsewhere Nintendo
well we get kirby block ball a week or two this thursday on the 3ds,but lets hope to get some more this month
I would definitely get 'The Super Spy' if it comes our way, played it every time I made my way to the arcade back in the day. Totally forgot about that game until now.
Shock Troopers is pretty great!
Actually, you won't be able to buy every Wario Land game besides Virtual Boy Wario Land; you can't buy Wario Land: Shake It either...
I remember playing those NeoGeo games in the arcade. Too bad NA seems to have killed off VC, there are still a few games I would like to own.
My god of war!! I tought it was a good game for me and it's the opposite!!
Shock Troppers is a good game. I play it a lot on SNK Arcade Classics.
They got a Ganbare Goemon game?
Lucky them... =S
Please tell me I'm not the only one who knows of that game series...
It's so great. So underrated.
I was also a big fan of The Super Spy back before the Neo Geo seemed to become exclusively about sports and fighting games. I'll happily pick up this and Shock Troopers for my Japanese VC machine.
@SuperTeeter64: No, you're not the only one. Goemon's Great Adventure is my all-time favorite third-party N64 game. Shame the series had relatively few GOOD titles (even in Japan), even fewer ever released here, and last I checked, there hasn't been a NEW Goemon game in years (last one on DS).
Wario Land 3 in Japan, and we don't even have 1 yet. Get with it, NOA!
@Luigifan141: Hence why I said "every possible Wario Land game"
@Stuffgamer1
Great. Glad I'm not the only one knowing of this awesome underrated series! The N64 titles like NEED to be on VC... Someday...Maybe... One can always hope...
I still wanna see Mega Man 6(Nes), & 7/X2/X3, & if they want Soccer too, for the SNes. C'mon Capcom, & Nintendo!
Also, since Nintendo, & 3rd-party co.s are not making any money off GBA games, Capcom should also release to NA VC, the SNes/SFC Mega Man, & Bass.
I'm just not knowledgeable about the system, but from what I understand, I guess it is, in some ways, rare to see a NG game that isn't a fighter.
Just remember guys, no update coming up because its a holiday week here in Japan. Well, no 3DS update anyway.
