It's time to brighten our Mondays with the European Nintendo Download Update, once again, and this week serves up a lot of options across the Wii U, 3DS and even DSi. There are some new releases on both eShop platforms along with Virtual Console entries, plenty of discounts and even a DSiWare release. There's a lot to get through, so let's get to it.
Wii U eShop
Turtle Tale (Saturnine Games, £2.49 / €2.99) - Turtle Island has been invaded by pirates, and it's up to Shelldon to stop them! Captain O'Haire and his gang of Monkey Pirates have sailed in and taken over the island. Armed only with his trusty water gun, Shelldon sets off on an adventure to fight the invasion. Guide Shelldon as he jumps and shoots his way through the perils of the tropical island and help him reclaim his home! Turtle Tale loyalty offer: You can save 33% on the regular price of Turtle Tale on Nintendo eShop on Wii U if you already own Turtle Tale for Nintendo 3DS with the same Nintendo Network ID. We were on the fence in our review of the 3DS version of Turtle Tale. Watch out for our upcoming review of this Wii U release to see if it is better suited to the big screen.
Wii U Virtual Console
Ufouria: THE SAGA (Sunsoft, £3.49 / €4.99) - Bop-Louie's friends have fallen into a crater on the world of Ufouria and they need his help! Control Bop-Louie as he searches for his amnesiac friends. Unable to swim or walk on ice, Bop-Louie must find his friends to help him overcome these problems and complete his adventure; but with each friend having their own strengths and weaknesses, it won't be easy! Take all the help you can, utilising your friends' abilities and hidden items found on your adventure, and find your way back home! This obscure NES platformer is definitely worth a look, find out more in our Ufouria: THE SAGA review.
3DS eShop
Painting Workshop (Collavier, £3.59 / €3.99) - Amazing Drawing & Painting software for Nintendo 3DS! Sparkling with tools, with Painting Workshop you will have the possibility to have fun while making the best paintings. Easy to use for the younger ones too, make simple doodles/scribbles and have fun using the full-coloured Stickers or other Pattern Tools. Don’t worry if it is your first painting software, lessons about the different tools are available inside the software in order for you to learn how to make the best use of them. Use a photo or image as background for your Canvas and edit it or just add some funny decorations! As always we'll be reviewing this title, so stay tuned for our verdict.
3DS Virtual Console
Mighty Final Fight (Capcom, £4.49 / €4.99) - Haggar, Guy and Cody are back to rescue Haggar’s kidnapped daughter and clean up the streets of Metro City! Mighty Final Fight takes the concept of the original arcade version but shrinks the characters to mini proportions, yet beefs up the gameplay with the addition of an experience system to level-up characters’ abilities. Unlike other versions you can play as each of the three main characters. Brawl your way through five hard-hitting levels, plus bonus rounds, before the face-off with the final boss. We'll bring you our review of this super-deformed brawler very soon.
DSiWare
4 Elements (Joindots, £7.19 / €7.99) - Get ready for an adventure of a lifetime as you reawaken the 4 elements. Rescue a long-forgotten kingdom and its inhabitants from their dismal fate, by making long chains of matching symbols and solving a variety of tricky and exciting tasks. Take advantage of a number of bonuses and set the power of the elements free. If you are in the market for a match-3 puzzler you could do a lot worse than this, find out more in our 4 Elements review.

Another really poor week you'd think nintendo would put more effort in on the virtual console giving the poor state of retail releases
How exciting.
Will get Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition .
Wii u VC! Waste of time.
Well this was to be expected a week after the release of Smash Bros. Nobody wants to compete for sales.
Meh. I played Guacamelee on Steam but I can't get myself to like it especially the art style. So nothing for me for the third week. Bring Megaman 7 and X3 and the Castlevanias!
All those games and none to my fancy. Guacamole I picked up free with Games for Gold on Xbox one, pretty poor to me. Sorry.
Need more Super Nes games on VC
Where's that shovelling game???
Lol I thought that the image shown was a strange cross-over with Streets of Rage and Gunstar heroes. If you look at the front over of both those games you can see why I made that connection (the Mega Drive covers not the genesis ones). XD
Nothing again from me, just as well, means I can put more hours into DSN-12 (loving it so far, no problems)
Nowt. Wasnt 4Elements a 3DS eShop game as well? I have it somewhere in one of my folders. Was ok timepass.
No € prices this time?
Needs more Shovel Knight. Also, release dates for Persona Q and SMTIV draw ever closer.
Thank God for hyrule warriors is all I can say
Nothing for me. Trying to finish up Fantasy Life and then moving onto Theatrhythm: Curtain Call and Assassin's Creed 4.
Might buy Guacamelee now.
ugh artwork was so ugly in that era of gaming. (like Mega Man's boxart etc)
Shame Nintendo aren't filling all the gaps with top notch VC releases. But then it's mainly long-term fans who'd be buying them, so why bother?
@readyletsgo This
They should just release "Final Fight One" for GBA on the VC instead.
Getting Guacamelee.
I'd get Ufouria if it's in 60HZ, but otherwise I'll pass as I've already got the game on my Wii U's "Wii" VC.
I also have a PS3 and a PC copy of Guacamelee, I don't need a third, though I'd recommend it to anyone who's thinking about getting it.
Otherwise there's nothing for me here. Still that just means more time to play Smash.
Another bad week nothing for me
Probably Euforia and Mighty Final Fight for me.
But im pretty much preoccupied by Fantasy Life and Smash Bros already.
So im not in desperate need to expand my backlog even further
Not downloading anything until Nintendo sort out a proper account system. Are you listening Nintendo? Sony is getting 100% of my money...
Guacamelee is pretty much a steal at that price, worth a shot if anyone hasn't yet.
Aside from that, yeah, bad week.
Unless you live in North America, that is.
I can't even imagine how stacked the next 3 weeks are going to be on the eShop over here..
Guacamelee & Aeternoblade for me then.
@datamonkey
You think they care?
Nintendo doesn't sell hardware with downloadable games.
They could have cross buy with every VC game and it wouldn't sell a single Wii U.
So they don't care if you buy the VC stuff.
Oh and for the record, let your PS3 break.
Try and get another PS3 registered.
You do know you can have just one of each system active on your account at a time, right? And to activate a new one, you need to go onto the old one and deactivate it, right? And if you can't turn it on, Sony will likely refuse to help, right?
Sony is just as bad as Nintendo.
But hey, when my Wii U Gamepad stopped working and they replaced it, the e-mail I got from CS was:
'if the need to replace your existing Wii U console should potentially arise, we will gladly assist you in activating the system for you, so that you may redownload your existing library of games.'
As in, they would do that for me, rather than expecting I do that for myself.
So, in reality, the policies are EXACTLY the same.
Apple, on the other hand, has a great policy regarding registered units. So you can use a greater variety and combination of devices, rather than one Wii U, or one PS3.
With Apple you could have 3 phones and a PC with the same content. Or 4 PCs and an iPad. If Sony allowed, say, two PSPs and two PS3s, maybe I'd understand. As it stands, you should probably not talk with your mouth open.
You're obviously still chewing on that.
@KeeperBvK oops, sorry about that. Added Euro prices now!
lol
"Turtles, Sagas, Painting and MIGHTY FINAL FIGHT!"
I was severely disappointed to discover the aforementioned turtles were not the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle games on NES.
I've just discovered they removed the NES Turtles from the Wii VC. Would love them to put it on the Wii U VC instead.
I know its not meant to be a very good game but I like it.
Banana Bliss is awesome. Buy it not that its on sale.
BIRDMANIA 3D
@SaGa_K
Haha same. I thought we're getting some TMNT VC games.
Even if Nintendo don't implement cross buy into their VC games, I still don't see why they can't have the same NES catalogue available on both 3DS and Wii U...adding Gamepad support can't be that difficult, can it? I'd prefer to play Mighty Final Fight and Donkey Kong Complete Edition on my TV.
I'll probably grab Guacamelee and Aeternoblade whilst they're discounted, Fantasy Life's consuming most of my free time at the moment though.
@readyletsgo - "all I can say"
B/c that's all there is.
I'll be getting Ufouria, but not this week. (still need to get Kirby Super Star and Super Punch-Out!! from Club Nintendo)
@Dazza Nothing against you, but why did you do this weeks EU update instead of @ThomasBW84? Is he on vacatioin/holiday?
@Knuckles yes from time to time that rascal @ThomasBW84 needs a day off. Can you believe it?
@Boxmonkey uforia is a great and pretty unique platformer.
Mighty final fight might be one of my favorite nes titles!
Thought we might ge some tmnt love!
Vc needs a massive injection as its falling off the face of the earth!
is the music speed normal in uFouria? The American Wii VC version was a bit wonky
When's the next scheduled actual decent title set for release on wii u?
Guacamelee is a definite must-buy. Wonderful game.
@SahashraLA
"the policies are EXACTLY the same". No they are not. I had a Wii and a PS3 stolen. I bought a new PS3 and simply downloaded my old games onto it. I emailed Sony, they deactivated my old one.
I bought a new Wii, couldn't download any of my old games, emailed Nintendo twice, they didn't respond, spoke to them on the phone, they told me all my old games were lost. Ludicrous Customer 'Service'
"You do know you can have just one of each system active on your account at a time, right?"
Not true. You can have two PS3's for game content. You can have two portables also.
"You think they care?
Nintendo doesn't sell hardware with downloadable games."
So your defence of them is to admit that they don't care about the people who would buy VC games, i.e. long-term, long-suffering fans. Not sure they'll thank you for that one. Nintendo is a profit-driven company, they care about every penny. They're just incompetent.
@ToxieDogg From Miyamoto's previous interview with IGN asking about VC cross-buy, he explained that since handheld and console development are two separate teams and each VC title version is worked to work either on handheld or console, it is a problem of duplicate effort. They tweak the emulated game to support the systems features. Some 3rd party and indie developers have had issues launching their games with off-TV play, so i think that it is not so easy as the system doing all the work for the developer.
Nothing! 2 weeks in a row. Are we going back to those early days, Nintendo?
Smash Bros. is the only thing that matters now.
U-Four-ia. I downloaded it on Wii so it only costs 99p to download it on Wii U. I do want Mighty Final Fight but for Wii U because its £1 cheaper. No point getting it on 3DS if you have both. I don't know why NES games are more expensive on 3DS than on Wii U.
Aww was hoping for Turtles IN TIME But will get Guacamelee instead!
We'll my plan has worked a treat! =) I've saved some e shop credit left over for any one of 4 games that next went on sale next as I couldn't decide which to get. Guacamelee is on sale now for £7.79......I have £7.81 of credit. BOOM!!
Omg I thought it was Turtles in Time, really excited and then typically let down. I can understand why nintendo are wanting to drip feed VC to an extent but this is poor again unfortunately.
@Dazza thanks
But is it possible you mixed up the eshop and DSiWare releases of 4 Elements? Your text makes them seem like the exact same release, as do the links provided (to the review of the eshop version and to the game profile page or whatever you want to call that one ^^).
Still waiting for Shovel Knight and 1001 Spikes. Smash just came out so I can wait some mo.
not gonna be many downloads this week. reason: SSB4
Do they NOT realize that SSB's just came out? None of those games can even compete. Seriously. If they released an N64 or GameCube game, then we can talk.
Do they NOT realize that SSB's just came out?
Yeah, but its only the 3DS version. True fans are waiting for the Wii U version.
I bought a new Wii, couldn't download any of my old games, emailed Nintendo twice, they didn't respond, spoke to them on the phone, they told me all my old games were lost. Ludicrous Customer 'Service'
What happened to your old Wii? Did you sell it or lose it? They tell you from the start you can't transfer games from one console to another without having both Wiis, I also read some guy sold his Wii then asked the forum how to transfer his Wii games to his new Wii U...
Everyone's recovering from Smash xD
@Bass_X0 Actually true fans are buying both, so they can smash 24/7!!!!
Just as I expected, a really bad selection but most people will be playing Smash so it doesn't matter all.
to everyone spelling ufouria wrong, its u-f-o-u-r-i-a.
its not hard folks
@SaGa_K I was hoping for Turtles in Time, myself.
@Bass_X0
Stolen, as I said earlier in the post. It and my PS3 got swiped in the same raid. That and other stuff like a family heirloom ring that belonged to my wife blah blah blah but that's not as important
Shadowrun for snes vc were are u.more snes and gba games come on.
Seriously? They make a Painting Workshop instead of releasing
Flipnote Studio 3D? That's lame.
to everyone spelling ufouria wrong, its u-f-o-u-r-i-a.
Actually, its U-four-ia.
They should just release "Final Fight One" for GBA on the VC instead.
They'll get to that. Its better for them to release lesser versions of games before they release the better versions of games to catch people double dipping on both. If they released them the other way around, less people will be inclined to download the lesser version after downloading the better version.
(and yes I know Mighty Final Fight and Final Fight One aren't the same game)
