A retailer listing has revealed that the next GameCube-inspired Switch controller from gaming accessory maker PDP will feature a design based on none other than Sonic the Hedgehog.
The controller looks set to join PDP's Wired Fight Pad Pro Controller collection, which already has designs featuring Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon, and Luigi and Peach. Just like the previous designs, this Sonic controller comes with a 10-foot USB cable and a detachable C-stick, which can be swapped out for a more traditional style stick (which you can see in the images below) if you prefer.
The product has appeared on Australian retailer EB Games' website, which says that the controller will be launching on 17th July for AUS $49.95. Details on a release for other regions have not been shared.
If you happen to main Sonic in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and love to play with the classic GameCube controller, this must be your lucky day!

Not sure about the red....
Sonic GameCube controllers...
Where's the port of Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 on the Switch? lol!
Though... I would love to see a Dreamcast shaped Switch controller for possible Dreamcast games in the future! lol!
@Jayenkai I'm very sure the red is meant to be his shoes.
damn it's corded though
@Jayenkai I bet it's half Sonic and half Knuckles. And my boy definitely contributed with his rear part on this one.
Why GameCube style? If it was more of a Switch Pro controller design it would be more enticing. Good for more than Smash anyway...
As usual:
Buy Hori or PowerA, not PDP.
Hori/PowerA are much higher quality controllers for basically the same price.
Ah... another one of those fake GameCube controllers, that's just a Pro Controller in disguise. It doesn't have the right triggers/L-R buttons to be an actual GameCube controller for Smash.
No need for a Mayflash adapter for this one, then...
@SepticLemon they're supposed to be trainers, not knee-high boots..
@SepticLemon
they could be hinting a few sonic games for switch with this controller I hope. adventure 1,2 generations and lost world would be great
@garydbz25 Hmm... I would like to see an improved remake of sorts with Adventure 1 and 2. Going back on those games now are rough, even though I loved them back in the early noughties.
The Dreamcast is 20 years old this year. Damn I feel old...
@garydbz25 OH!
You know what Dreamcast game I WOULD LOVE to see ported or remade on the Switch?
Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1&2!
I loved playing those on the Dreamcast and GameCube! It was the only MMO I ever got into! As much as I'm happy to see Phantasy Star 2 coming out for XBoxOne and PC, it's eight years too late for me. Not to mention it's a free to play game with a lot of microtransactions; mainly for cosmetics though.
@SepticLemon indeed. same here. But I still play phantasy star online episode 1 up to 4 on PC. Thank God there's offline version. Except story is not included as in Gamecube version the real offline version with online function. But i'm glad i'm able to play episode 4 anyway
@Alucard83 Was Episode 4 called BlueBurst?
Does it have any rumble?
Yes, the best way to play Sonic Heros
#GottaGoFast
@SepticLemon its a hill that i am prepared to die on but those analogue shoulder triggers on the dreamcast pad are still without equal
And instantly I am taken back to 2002 when I was baffled to see longtime rival Sonic on a Mario platform.
The GC Sonics don't use the analog triggers afaik, so it would be a nice combo, well except for the thing being usb and not an actual gc controller.
Ah, in Heroes it's the camera speed. Don't know if that's the case in Adventure 1+2 tho.
seriously remember 30 years ago he was an evil blue hedgehog who was on that other evil console. Now what next he will take up plumbing and start in super mario maker.
@placidcasual It's a pain that the only controller for the Switch that has analogue triggers are the GameCube controllers. This is why I always hope that there will be a new Pro controller and Joycons that have an analogue ZL and ZR triggers. It's not the Nineties anymore, I can't use buttons for gas in racing games unless it's Mario Kart.
Man, this new movie model of Sonic is already looking better!
Color scheme is not my style.
So can you use this with an actual Gamecube because that'd be an instant buy for me.
@Anguspuss Sonic had an amiibo skin in Super Mario Maker on Wii U, so...
I LOVE these PDP controllers. I have 4 connected to the living room dock. They feel really comfortable in the hands. My only gripe is the inability to purchase more analog caps. Word to the wise.It is VERY easy to snap the clips when switching analog caps.
I have the Mario one. Such a good controller.
