Koei Tecmo obviously shared its first look at Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity gameplay earlier today. If you don't want to hear the bits in between, above is a cut version, courtesy of the YouTube channel GamersPrey:
The official Japanese Nintendo website has also shared some additional screenshots of the gameplay. Take a look below:
Hyrule Warriors arrives on 20th November this year. Are you excited for this upcoming Switch release? Tell us down below.

Complete nonsense but i can dream.
Can we have a non canon avengers style mode, where oracle of ages and ocarina of time link turn up with all the links, zeldas, interesting characters (adult sidon my boy) from the past and and future to change the course of history. That way my Queen Urbosa can live and Mipha can be there to watch Sidon and his beautiful lil smile grow bigger and bigger each day.
Koei tecmo can you make this mode just for me. Thanks.
I just wish this game came before the main game so I wasn't spoiled on the outcome.
I'm pleasantly surprised, part of me was expecting this to be awful. But it looks like they have been working on this for a while and it will turn out pretty well.
Looks pretty fun actually. I'm just not sure if it'll be different enough to Hyrule and FE Warriors to be really worth it. Also, like I said before, I really, really, really wish we could have finally gotten online co-op. This practically begs for it, it really does.
My wallet is crying in the corner.
"your weapon broke!"
Link coming to Impa's rescue...a nice callback to the first Zelda.
Oh, and collectables home in on you, nice.
And Link's fast bow and arrow shooting reminds me of Link's crossbow training (and Linkle)
Strange though that Link doesn't wear his champion-tunic. Maybe later in the game?
The game looks pretty cool by the way.
Oh, and the friendly mini-guardian looks cute.
This looks so dang good
Looks awesome, day one purchase for sure.
I can't wait! I love Zelda! Now let's hope botw 2 is to release next year.
It's so weird seeing Link run without a stamina meter depleting.
I'm very excited to play the first great warriors game
Looks really great! Seems like the combat is a lil different like scrambled so hopefully I don’t get as bored as the last warriors game and fe warriors. Either way the story is gonna be great
It does look cool but it also looks like you'll only come across braindead Bokoblins and an occasional Moblin (which is already 68% of BotW's enemy roster).
It does look interesting. It must be running on the BotW engine, there are just too many similarities. Which presumably means they've had to hollow out the BotW gameplay, take the Warriors gameplay and build it into Nintendo's engine.
@Henmii I'm guessing later, when they decide Link is a champion of hyrule. In the footage he's still just a knight
Also the graphics look excellent considering the number of enemies on screen.
The lack of online coop makes this a “wait for sale” or “purchase used at half price” game unfortunately.
No rush to play it with all the other great games around, if I don’t have to worry about wanting a large online community to play with....
What a shame they didn’t include it!
well another generic musou game set in the beautiful BOTW world ....but it still just a musou game
@Henmii It's confirmed in the game from some of the other trailers, but this was the first level of the game. He doesn't get that tunic canonically until all the champions are assembled, so I'd expect to get it after the initial set of levels.
I’m buying this.
But is it going to drop to $30 within a few months?
Did that happen with the first one on Switch or was that just fire emblem warriors?
Comparing this to the first HW, the greatly reduced pop-in alone is a miracle. Lots of little Nintendo touches too - they way pop-in is hidden with a fade in, and background resolution drops to maintain frame rate - makes this game feel better than it's predecessors, not to mention the gorgeous cut scenes, and the clever way they're repurposing BotW music.
Musou games always seemed cheap and mindless to me. This doesn't seem cheap! And better fan service, at least for me, than the first HW game. I'm totally okay with gorgeous, mindless, bespoke fan service.
@Ralek85 That's exactly my concern with the game. The genre gets stale quite fast for me but online and couch co-op would make the experience more fun.
@link3710 and @Jmjfrank
I guess that may be the case. I forgot that on the box-art he is wearing the champion tunic. So yeah, he might get it later.
Not as good as Breath of the wild, make no sense to put that many enemies, they can not harm you, need to wait another year for the real game...
Looks a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to seeing more of the champions who badly needed far more screen time in BOTW. On a technical level alone this looks a long way ahead of the previous Hyrule Warriors and back to Breath of the Wild, its such a shame we never got to see these areas in all their glory instead of just being destroyed
Looks a lot more enjoyable that botw for me...
Mipha and Ravali are the only ones who don't use a sword. They might be the ones that may come in the most handy. That is, unless there's stats for the characters. Link and the Lucky Ladle and the Training Sword might be my favorite. Though if there's special moves for each character we shall see who's my favorite.
Ugh... same old boring and repetitive musou gameplay. Come on Tecmo... step it up or take it away from Zelda.
Yeah it’s a great show but there’s no soul. it’s a slog to get through these games.
I was expecting more.
@roy130390 There is co-op
Why is all the footage from the game show so damn blurry? Monster Hunter was the same way.
@Sidon_ZoraPrince Considering it's fully voice acted unlike the original Hyrule Warriors and is canon, I'd be surprised if we got any of the characters of the past game as playable ones in any game modes. Which is a big hinderance on my will to buy it...
Omg, yes yes yes, I'd buy this, even if I went bankrupt
I was super excited for hyrule Warriors but just couldn’t get into it. Won’t be getting this day 1, if at all
@Snaplocket Pretty sure BOTW had full voice acting as well...for the cinematics at least.
Hook this to my veins. Might need to take a day off work for this one. Love the look of it.
Looks very good! The main problem with musou games is that either you love or hate them. I feel like I'm in the middle. I like to play them for the story and some extra mission, but after that it becomes so repetitive and frustrting that the rewards you eventually get don't seem worth it. All the content becomes, to me, at least, wasted potential. I still have HW for the WiiU and didn't even finish the adventure mode. At some point completing the missions seemed more luck than strategy.
If you can get past the frustration (or are actually really good and have A LOT of time) the gameplay is still fun! I fear I'm going to buy this anyway, even if mainly for the story mode...
@Ricube This is a good point. As much as I love the BOTW visuals, the music in these videos wasn't at the same level, and that had a big impact on me somehow. Then I watched the musou gameplay, and the gameplay loop just isn't doing it for me, and I'm not sure why.
Looks amazing. I can't wait to get back to frenzy action with link.
Looks very meh to me.
Yep, looks like Hyrule Warriors. I'd buy a Brick if Nintendo told me it was an official Mushroom Kingdom brick, so I'll probably buy this but like... C'mon the Warriors series needs a brushup.
@Ulysses I think part of it could be that BOTW had music that changed depending on what was happening-The trumpet blares would line up with your attacks, the samples would play in different orders each time-this gives a unique musical experience for each player-Warriors just doesn't do that, which is understandable. It does, however, have an effect on the experience overall.
That was a decent showing, but I now want to see even more. Hyrule surely had much more towns 100 years ago.
This game seems to be pushing Switch to its limits really hard. I've seen a lot of Warriors games on Switch, but this one features much more graphical features seen in the PS4 versions
It makes me wonder what Nintendo is doing? Many of their games were outsourced to 3rd parties and they don't need to make games for 3DS anymore. Most of their games for Switch are ports from Wii U, so what is Nintendo doing all this time? Busy counting money in their bank?
Scores of enemies and yet it seems practically impossible to get hurt. Is there going to be any sort of difficulty in this game?
@ilh It's just level 1
I'm surprised Nintendo allow these Zelda musou games. It cheapens the brand imo.
It's too bad the warriors gameplay is the most boring and tedious thing in existence.
@Old-Red I don't agree with that at all. Diversity is what is needed for the IP as it creates more experiences and allows other creators to chime in. You might not enjoy this type of game, but a lot of other people will, my self included.
sighs....I'll just be over still wishing for a Hyrule Warriors 2...
Never played a warriors game, and it doesn’t look like much fun to me. I will be trying it out though. I want to know the full story leading up to my favorite game of all time, and I hope I will be surprised at how fun the gameplay is.
Where is Navi? Did I miss something?
