Nintendo yesterday uploaded a brand new six-minute trailer of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a Switch release that arrives later this month on January 28th.
To go with it, it's also shared three new commercials - showcasing the game's environments, mechanics and all of the Pokémon trainers can expect to encounter in the region of Hisui. Here they are in full:

Mmm eventho the battle system looks better then any pokemon game, i still havent seen anything refreshing (still the same as we already saw) looks kinda empty.
Got a bad feeling about it.
Will wait for reviews or more gameplay footage.
Like most sensible people, I’ll wait for the reviews
Looks promising but I’m concerned that the final product has the potential to be much more than it is now. Maybe I’ll consider buying the sequel 🤔
Thank goodness people are learning from their mistakes, so they exert some self-restraint and don't let their impulsiveness decide what they should or shouldn't play.
Thank goodness, people should REALLY mind their own business & not worry what games others buy & enjoy.
@Mauzuri I think some people are waiting for something outside of marketing material to help them decide. People are almost there and just need a nudge to dive in. I'll get it eventually even if the reviews are terrible but the reviews may persuade me to get it sooner rather than later. Still playing Shining Pearl at the minute anyway. Seems strange they decided to release this so soon after that release.
@Enigk
Yeah for now ill wait for actual gameplay footage, im not as convinced at first, but after the latest video not anymore.
Unless they bomb us with some new gameplay/story trailer. But for now i am not convinced (yet)
At least it's more creative than Sword and Shield. Just hoping it doesn't turn out to be a bland, lifeless grindfest.
My god, can you guys just mind your own buisness? If someone is excited for the game and will buy it at release then that's ok but at the same time if someone wants to wait for reviews/impressions then that's also ok
Don't get why people always have to "argue" about such nonsense
@mariomaster96 👍
@Mauzuri "thank goodness I buy everything from a company known for lazy money grabs without even waiting to see if it's any good. I feel bad for people who like to know the quality of a product before spending their money"
Got it bud.
Seriously, when did Pokemon ever become the pioneer in graphics and turn-based RPG combat? I feel like a lot of people just bash anything related to Pokemon because it's the cool thing to do on the internet lol
looking forward to it! gonna pick it up after my shift on the 28th probably, which'll be at about 6pm
@DomGC exactly. I feel like people expect too much from Pokemon games... which I don't get. It's been 25 years, if they didn't "grow up" then, they won't now lmao. They clearly know who they want to target (kids) and are sticking to it, for better or for worse.
Clearly, whiny people are still drawn to Pokemon one way or another. I find it hard to believe no other title or developer found a way to do a Pokemon-style game with supposedly better graphics in the last 25 years. If they do, go play that then.
@twicesmt The expectation became a little higher than "dog turds" as soon as they became the highest earning media franchise in the world. What's their excuse?
@twicesmt The thing is, they used to be high quality portable gaming for several generations, long enough for us all to have grown up with the series and become very attached to the universe, so it's not hard to see why so many people would be saddened by a decline and continue to hope for the best each time around. Without whiners you'd be stuck with sub-par efforts until you die of old age, maybe consider letting people hold a company to a higher standard? What have you got to lose?
Maybe they're the highest earning media franchise in the world not in spite of their design decisions but because of them. I just finished Shin Megami Tensei V and I enjoyed its whole monster collecting/breeding shtick way more than any Pokémon game I've played (Blue & LGE) but it only moved 800k copies. Not saying that means Pokémon is better but a lot of comments make it seem like their success is some kind of accident unrelated to anything they actually do.
I have Arceus on pre order cause it looks interesting and because I support Game Freak stepping out of their comfort zone a little with the gameplay even if it is a smaller step.
But I'm open to the real possibility that I just don't like Pokémon games in general. Not because GF didn't spend enough budget on tree models, but because fundamentally the whole system just isn't very interesting to me compared to every other RPG I've played. I love the first 151 creatures in a general kid at the zoo kind of way but gameplay I just don't get what the best case scenario is for the battle system. Feels like it was always broken.
@SpaceboyScreams you realize the actual video games are not the main reason they're the biggest media franchise right?
And while I get that they should at least evolve, pun fully intended, nine 10-year-olds will pick up the new game that "sucks" for the one 25-year-old and would think it's the best game ever, especially if it's their introduction to the whole gaming franchise. To be honest, the faster we realize these games are no longer made for us, the sooner we'll be at peace lol.
I have Legends Arceus pre-ordered since like August, and Game Freak will have to do an amazingly terrible job at it for me not to at least enjoy it. It certainly won't be the end of my world if a kid's game's trees don't have shadows in the overworld.
Can't be any worse than Cyberpunk 2077. Brave steps forward I reckon with this game. They can't make it too open world, they still need an element of progression through the game I would imagine. But I do have to say, I'm liking the look of it.
"I don't trust GameFreak's marketing", says someone who fell hook-line-and-sinker for CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk charade.
Pokémon Blue captivated me
Yellow was great fun
Silver I loved
Stadium I played to death
Snap I also played to death
And then the series just became monotonous to me. No real evolution in a series about evolution.
I am very excited for this game as I feel it’s going to take the series in a direction it needs to go in. I doubt it will be flawless, but I certainly feel it will be a stronger game than Sword and Shield — and for the first time since the nineties I am genuinely excited about a Pokémon game.
(Actually, Go has been a great one for me too!)
@westman98 Yeah I've felt it's weird how many like they'd rather an overambitious lie that relies on staged trailers that cover for broken mechanics. And the devs hiding it until release.
@SpaceboyScreams When I see arguments like this I'm always reminded of Final Fantasy. Back in the late 90's when FF7 sold 10 million copies, Squaresoft thought were ontop of the world. They pumped untold millions into everything Final Fantasy and where did it get them?
By the early 2000's they were were almost bankrupt and had to get bought out by Enix to continue making games. Think about how short that window was that they went from best selling JRPG in 1997 (until Pokemon) to being bought out by one of their competitors in 2003. Squaresoft's peak success was a game made in 3 years with lego looking characters and they've never had a game as successful FF7 despite how much the production values and development has increased since.
In short to go all-in on production values after a smashing success is a foolish path. Pokemon should have production values based on what the game needs to be, not on how much profit the previous game brought in.
I was all in when they revealed this game, but honestly idk. With the exception of the Pokémon vehicles thing, I feel like nothing really new has been revealed since then. I have a feeling this game is going to be kind of just ok. It really reminds me the gamefreak game Town
@Dr_Lugae
This is a really long-winded way to excuse the largest media franchise in the world for not hiring even a normal-sized team of devs.
Got to admit those trailers don’t do it any favours
@BLD Based on the Sword/Shield credits the size of the teams for Pokemon is several hundreds, with even several support studios involved.
What would you call a normal-sized team of devs?
This is very meh. Diamond and Pearl are much better entries. I will wait for the second remake of this in 15 years.
@Crockin Did it occur to you they may not want to reveal every little thing and keep some surprises?
@SpaceboyScreams Or you could not be an arse, and put words in people's mouths.
Also, about holding the company to a higher standard. Okay, sure.
Now how will they achieve the higher standard you so desire? And before you use the tired old canard of giving them more time in the oven (which I do agree with, but is not the point I'm making) I think you need to understand that Game Freak is beholden to Nintendo and TPC, and that means their production schedules have to align with what TPC and Nintendo want to put out to try to keep Pokemon on people's minds. They can't just give them the finger and do whatever.
Nor do yo, or anyone else actually understand how the money the franchise makes is distributed or even used. How much of what the games and merch and cards make do you think even actually goes to GF? You act like GF has infinite money, but it's not like GF gets to pull what it needs from some Scrooge McDuck-like pool or vault of yen for it's ventures for anything it needs to do.
You and everyone are free to criticize them if the game isn't up to your standard. Fine. But you could also stop pretending like you know so much and know what's needed o fix this quality problem you have with the games.
@Crockin it’s going to be a very watered down experience with no reason to play after “finishing”. There’s no trainer battles, multiplayer, co-op, or competitive. We already have Zelda Breath of the Wild so there’s no need for this game. It’s literally just a demo being released as a “game” by Nintendo. I really wish Disney would get the Pokemon license already.
@mariomaster96 Cause some people can't live with people enjoying something they don't enjoy.
@SpaceboyScreams why do you care so much about how they spend their money? Let us enjoy things, we're not asking you to buy the game for us.
I personally think that whether this game turns out amazing or terrible I absolutely support the fact that GameFreak is trying something completely new which is kind of what all the fans have been asking for for years?
Im really befuddled at why this is receiving so much backlash when this is what WE have been asking for. This company is clearly trying and if this game doesn't work out then they will just go back to using all of their budget on releasing the same old formulaeic Pokemon games. It's especially confusing that some are telling people not to pre-order this?
Guys, if a person sees a game as appealing and pre-orders it, it's their choice. Some pre-ordered Cyberpunk and actually enjoyed their time with it despite all of its flaws. It's not up to you to dictate to others what they should or shouldn't play. Right now especially, when since Metroid this is the first big notable release on the Switch.
The perfect review would include..
A ) How long it takes before it's "actually" an open world.
B ) How much of the tutorial guff we have to churn through, even though we've all played the exact same tutorial to death 600 or so times previously.
Many say they wait for the Review to find out if they will buy and enjoy the game, but we must not forget that sometimes, the Review is used only to promote a game in a very bad way (either giving it more value than it is worth or despising it. Without justification); therefore I do not recommend relying on a Review totally, also, we all have our judgment, we do not condition our enjoyment by what other people say (even if they are specialized), but, oh well.., it is your decision, "do what you want" ...
For my part, with what I saw, I see a good game and I know I will enjoy it, therefore, what they say in the Reviews, I will not be interested at all.
I think this will be a good game. We have to be sensible. There is a reason why they chose the past with nature. They don't have to worry about programming busy cities and people. They are probably using a form of the BOTW engine. This game is the stepping stone to future open world Pokemon games that will come in two versions.
My main question. Will the trainer face consequences for getting damaged to make it challenging? Or will the trainer just need to catch their breath and then move on like nothing happened?
It has the potential to breathe new life in a stale series. Will it? History suggests it's unlikely. Still, the branding is all it needs to outsell higher quality products. I hope I'm wrong, anyway. If this is met with glowing reviews as opposed to scathing criticism, I'll buy.
Dare I say...
Quit acting like a Sega/Sonic fan and enjoy a game in your life!
In saying that I like Sonic games at least the ones on Nintendo systems.
Nothing about this suggests this game will be good. They've only offered vague glimpses of the game and are letting people fill in the blanks with their imagination, which ultimately leads to disappointment when people actually play it.
Looking like the Legends spin-off series is an attempt to make a MH Stories like side franchise. I wish the game had a little more polish and towns/npc's to meet. Johto would have been such a better region to base a game like this. Even if it would set our Switch's on fire.
@Varkster This isn't what we have been asking for. It's whats looking like a watered down low budget attempt at what we have been asking for. I guess we will find out soon.
@DomGC with me, if Legends isn’t good, then I’m probably done with the series. There’s other (better) monster collecting games I can buy.
@MegaVel91 I think we’ve got a pretty good grasp on what this game is. There’s stuff they haven’t shown obviously, but if there was more to the core gameplay we would have seen by now.
I'm seeing a lot of passive-aggressive comments talking about the criticisms of other people on their choices of buying games.
I have another way of putting this out there. Take a successful game like Mario Kart 8 and ask: "Why aren't the same number of people who bought this game buying Breath of the Wild? Why aren't the same number of people buying Smash Ultimate?" Not everyone is necessarily hostile towards those who speak about their preferences; there are some, like me, who encourage people to try out these other games, because we believe that these people are missing out on all these fun experiences.
With this case, it's really just the matter of someone wanting to try a different kind of Pokemon game, and others wanting to wait and see. There's nothing wrong with the timing of purchasing a game. There is something certainly wrong if someone refuses to try a game at all without experiencing a bit of it.
First of all, I love the small touch of showcasing a different play mode at the end of each commercial. Wonderful little detail. Also caught the thoughtfulness behind the type of gameplay fitting each play mode, showcasing the more intense combat and boss battle cutscenes for TV mode, the quiet wonder of exploration in airy tabletop mode, and the fun of some quick Pokemon catching in handheld mode.
Second of all, I went through all the stages of "grief" after the loss of the feature of every Pokemon being compatible with every game. I'm willing to admit that. And as that kind of person who has emerged out the other side feeling more neutral toward the franchise, I really am quite unsettled by how bitter and combative the naysayers of the Pokemon franchise have become as the years go on.
Here's my two cents thrown in. If you feel negatively enough toward Pokemon to continue posting salty condemnations, then you simply should try taking a break from the franchise, like I did. Perhaps you spent a little too much money on merchandise and feel a classic case of sunken cost fallacy. That's understandable. Just place all your Pokegoodies in storage, give yourself a bit of out-of-sight-out-of-mind, and just give yourself some time. It sounds a little silly to spell this out like some sort of self-help session, but I really do see a lot of strong, misplaced emotions in these kind of toxic comment sections.
Writing up negative comments is a short term outlet, not a long term solution.
This looks so much better than the main pokemon games. So EXCITED!
I’ll be waiting for the rerelease that includes all expansion pass content and patches.
I think the issue is the series has always been designed with the younger Pokemon fans, and of course the majority of these just grow out of it. As I said the problem comes with some of the people who hare still with the series after playing it as a kid, they expect the game to be made for what is in effect a very small minority of people, which in reality the game is still being tailored for the younger audience.
I simply accept this as a fair few of the older games players do as well, but of course some will never accept this.
The game piqued my interest from the very first, super unpolished trailer. Legends Arceus looks like the game Game Freak wanted to make while designing the wild area, Isle of Armor, and Crown Tundra maps. I would definitely like to see GF make a more polished looking game, like BotW, but Legends Arceus is entirely servicable. Besides, even the worst playing Pokemon games (Gen I), the games that were the lowest point in the series for me (Gen V), and the games with the worst story (X/Y) were still solid games. I'm been on a creature capture/monster tamer bender for the past few years. Playing games like Yokai Watch, Nexomon, SMT, and even some of those Idea Factory/Compile Heart games that make you feel a little dirty. None of them have mechanics that are even close to as refined as the Pokemon series.
Can't wait for this game! The commercials even call it "arcee us" and that's how I'm saying it. "Arky us" sounds stupid.
