Following a contentious casting announcement, and a period of delays and new release dates, we found out that Illumination's upcoming Mario movie (tentatively titled Super Mario Bros.) will be getting its first teaser trailer at New York Comic Con on October 6th. However, Twitter account has since been spotted — and verified — for the movie!
Without making a single post, the @supermariomovie account has already amassed 13.6k followers (by our latest count). This, combined with the account's verified status, definitely makes us think that we are looking at the real deal here, and thousands of followers seem to agree. If you thought that the anticipation had gone down the warp pipe, think again.
We imagine that the first official post will be powering up over the course of the next week, with just a few days left until we get a first look at the movie. Lead actor Chris Pratt (a fact that we are still not quite over) says that he has seen the trailer and was 'blown away' — high praise indeed. But then again, this is the star of the film talking!
As it appears now, the Twitter account looks a little ominous, all blacked-out with no posts to show.
Whether the account will uniquely post trailers or if we can finally have some of our movie questions answered remains to be seen; but please, for the love of Peach, can we finally learn what the film's official title is?

Just prepare yourself for new Mario voice that probably will sounds like this.
I took this bait, but why is this unexpected?
Seems normal to me. If you follow the account, you'll see the tweets come in when they start instead of finding out about them later. No problem here.
Yeah me and all my friends are already following it lol
The two facts may not be unrelated...

@Anti-Matter You are probably right, but I hope you're not.
This film will most likely be either a disaster or, like many other films from Illumination, just mediocre at best.
I've been on Twitter since 2007 and I haven't reached 1000 followers in total over 2 accounts 😂
It'll be hilarious if this movie flops.
@RareFan Look at the newest Minions movie as an example. It made a buttload of cash, but made every movie before it worse.
@Anti-Matter I work for my uncle who works for Nintendo who happens to work for his mother who works for Illumination and can confirm that Mario will sound like this
@ketrac
Illumination just found the perfect business plan for animation. Make cheep films, that a lot of people watch. Their films are always just good enough. But do not need to be master pieces.
Good for them, YAWN, wake me up when the new donkey kong game comes out
as a longtime Mario fan i worried the Mario movie by Illumination could be a trainwreck(please don't be a trainwreck)
@RareFan They're not even that "cheap", but they make a ton of box office cash, and probably 2-4x that in overpriced merchandise.
Since when did a movie’s Twitter account getting tons of followers become news worthy? Things have been going downhill lately.
@ketrac
Well, with cheap I mean that, in comparison to Pixar or Dreamworks, there are much cheaper. Of course, their films still cost millions of US dollars.
I refuse to watch the film.. some actors in the film i hate enough to boycott films they are in
@RareFan so true. Their movies appeal to the widest audiences possible. Which means lots of typical crap. I loved the first Despicable Me. I liked The Lorax. If I remember correctly, I though Sing was, ok. But I don’t understand the enduring popularity of the Minons. I tried to watch the first movie. So annoying. DM2 wasn’t good. They make movies that shut children up and put parents to sleep. They’ll never make an Up, WALL·E or How to Train Your Dragon. Not that every movie has to live up to that standard, but it would be nice, if they strived for higher standards. And the public keeps eating it up. 🙄
Aren't they revealing the trailer at NYC comic con?
@RealNVP they are
Is the thumbnail a new render of Mario? I don't think I've seen it before ...Maybe it's just an old Odyssey render or from Mario Party.
Mario movie articles try not to become the most negative thing to ever exist on the planet. Like sheesh you've said you don't want to watch it in every other article, you don't have to say it every time
@Vil I swear I was thinking the same thing... I don't recall ever seeing that particular image of Mario. Look how wide open that mouth is lol
@Slinkoy1
My only problem with this article is how unnecessary it is. I mean, it is literally about a movies twitter account getting followers.
While the Mario movie isn’t for me, I can see why some would like it. Mostly kids because everything we know about the movie seems geared to them.
@blindsquarel yeah this article is pretty pointless lol. Give me a single movie account without thousands of followers.
Just going off of the track record that video game movies have I’m going to make an educated guess and say that this film will not take much inspiration from its source material. Also no way all of those account are real people. Zero posts and 10k+ followers? Definitely a few bots clanking around.
