Sonic's Knuckles Series Adds Multiple New Cast Members

I was surprised to see Christopher Lloyd amongst the cast when I saw his name was trending.

Other than that...is all I got to say.

Knuckles deserves this series, we have had non series sonic boom personality knuckles for way to long!

Idris Elba was a fantastic Knuckles in Sonic 2, so I am actually pretty stoked to watch this with my son in the future!

They got me at the man who famously played Doc Brown from the Back to the Future series.

I’m very curious how this show will be and what characters are in it. But hey, I won’t turn down more Knuckles!

I honestly hope they have more Sonic peeps show up in it.

Even just as one-offs or semi-recurring characters.

I realize the budget would need to be high for that, but I can wish darn it

@ArcadianLegend99 He's probably gonna be Gerald Robotnik, foreshadowing his appearance in the third film.

Hopefully these new cast members are actually playing some iconic characters (Chaotix maybe???) and NOT just “human” characters.

I genuinely wonder when they're gonna follow the games and go pure action with Sonic Paramount. Sonic 2 was a step in the right direction, but it still did have it's contrivances for "comedy."

Oh... I was hoping this series would be an all out CG animated thing set in the universe of the movies. Oh well.

I like Tika, and I love the movies. I just really want something more akin to the Mario movie where its just 100% CGI without the need to insert human / live action characters and sets. I'm sure I'll still enjoy this though, I loved Knuckles in the movie, they did a perfect job with him.

@JohnnyMind They are good fun, especially the second, and I think they got the characterisations of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles pretty spot on. Jim Carrey is clearly having fun as Robotnik and isn't bad at all, especially if you liked his OTT 90s performances. By far the most enjoyable parts are the bits that are related to the games, especially in the CG game worlds, rather than the stuff on earth.

I'm sure in the first movie the large amount of time with the human characters was partially because the execs were nervous if there were enough hardcore fans to watch an entire "sonic" movie and were aiming for a wider mainstream audience... but also because its a LOT cheaper to make a film thats predominantly set in real live action locations and only have minimal CGI, so the budget could be kept low and less risk. Theres also a lot of product placement but to my taste its actually done pretty well, with some funny almost fourth wall breaking making a joke about how blatant it is. Made me laugh anyway.

However, because the firsty movie was such a surprise success at the box office, the second one clearly had a much bigger budget, the execs had more faith in the property, and were willing to have far more of the movie based around the CG characters and game lore... but then were stuck with the problem of having to find excuses for the human characters in the first movie to have anything to do in the sequel. For a large part of the movie they disappear off on holiday and leave Sonic to his own devices and the movie is far better for it, and slows down a little when they are reintroduced.

But honestly the human parts, whilst almost entirely unrelated to Sonic lore, are entertaining enough in their own right. All the actors are at least fun to watch and the writing is quite funny in parts. Didn't stop me making my own cuts of the movies keeping all the best bits I want to rewatch and cutting out a lot of the filler though! lol
