Capcom Celebrates Dragon's Dogma 2 Launch With 'Dark Arisen' eShop Sale

Can you play Coop with this game on the Switch?

One of my favourite Switch games. Hope we get DD2 on Switch 2 (without the microtransactions though, please.)

Dragon's Dogma is awesome, and anyone who likes action rpgs should absolutely play it. That being said, I think it's gone on sale at the same "celebratory" price every month for the past year. It's surprising there's anyone remotely interested who hasn't bought it already.

No dual audio = no buy. Original (!) PS3/XBOX 360 version had dual audio option support, while Switch version don't. Also, original game ran at 60FPS, while Switch version runs at 30FPS. That sucks even more... CAPCOM are masters at making barebones ports...

@Vyacheslav333 all consoles run at 30 fps, with the PS3 hitting low 20s...

@Vyacheslav333 I'm sure most don't care. I certainly didn't. The game played great on Switch.

@Lucami Well... PS4 and XBOX One versions runs at 30FPS too. But, there was no reason to not upgrade the game's framerate, and there was no reason to remove dual audio option. Licenses costs? Well, I don't care about it. They did it once, so, they shall be able to do it twice. Include it in every release of the game.

Damn seems like Capcom loves turning Dragon's Dogma 2 into a garbage infested title. Denuvo check, loads of micro transactions for a $70 game check, terrible performance and ugly graphics check. Such a shame for what would had been an epic open world action game, all the negative Steam reviews says it all.

@Fizza I played it for first time last Christmas on Switch and highly enjoyed it. It runs great and comes with all DLC included, so surely it's one of the best ways to play it (counting it can become a long game depending on how much you want to explore, being portale is a nice plus).

@Fizza Dive in. You won't regret it! There is so much scope for 'gaming moments.' Y'know, where you just say to yourself 'that was cool' or 'what the heck was that?' or occassionally, 'well that could have gone better.'

I want the physical more which runs into the import trap because Capcom but man do they keep tempting me.

I picked this up a couple of years ago when it was on sale and I was really enjoying it right up until I reached the highest level in my chosen class and was basically forced to switch to a different class in order to continue the character progression.
There were other irritations like quests I'd accepted but not completed failing with no warning because I advanced the main quest beyond a certain point.
It's a shame because things like climbing up giant enemies and the way the wilderness is incredibly dangerous after dark were really cool.

I also bough the game a couple of years ago, but got stuck on a particularly challenging flying foe and stopped playing. I might go back to the game at some point, I thought was a decent port and I really liked the night time aspect.

what's dual audio?

I downloaded this game, and much like my attempts to get into skyrim and Monster Hunter, the feeling of "NOPE" was just too strong off the bat and I put it down real fast. I dont know what it is.

oh well! I look at it in my collection often and think about trying again, perhaps I shall ✌️

I remember starting this game a while back and just couldn't get into it on the Switch, so it's been sitting in my backlog ever since. I also acknowledge that I didn't spend nearly enough time on it, so it's possible the game just wasn't what I was looking for in that moment of time. Perhaps I'll give it another try when I'm in a more adventurous mood.

This game has been on offer since the announcement of DD2

@-wc- It's a Japanese take on a Western-style, "open-world"-ish RPG. Some things work, some things don't translate well. In a weird way, it is kind of like a cross between Skyrim & single-player Monster Hunter.

I love Skyrim, but find it sort of hard to get into Dragon's Dogma myself, for some reason. I've tried twice before, maybe I'll try again.

@Fizza It's not a bad port, i enjoyed it. Takes a while to open up so give it some time. But gets addictive eventually

I played Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen two years ago after buying it on sale. I loved all the ideas the game had, but did not enjoy my playthrough.
I feel if i played a class other than a magic user, i might have enjoyed the game more. Although , unlike Dark Souls, your success in combat is more determined by math, rather than skill. So melee isn’t quite as thrilling as in Dark Souls, though it certainly is more thrilling than avoiding enemy attacks and firing off spells occasionally.
I also recall a lot of general clunkiness and an occasional lack of clarity as to what the game required of me. Which i can get past, enjoy even, but as i was already not liking the combat, it just became an irritation.
I did love the exchanging of npcs. It gives a sense that you are part of a community without having to actually interact with randos(who, by and large, suck). Which is perfect for me.
Also, i thought i beat the game, but apparently there was more.
While i will probably never go back to it, i would encourage anyone interested in this title, and who’s read this far lol, to give it a try. It’s an interesting game and though i didn’t like it, i respect the ambition and creativity.
I won’t be playing the second game.

In case of Japanese video games, when the game has both JP and Eng voice-overs available in all versions, and when you can choose between them without changing text's language – it's dual audio. The ability to play games with different language voice-overs and text at the same time (JP voice-overs with Eng text, for example).

I want you to understand that the jargon "dual audio" is completely non self-explanatory, and just because it's plain to you what it means doesn't mean that someone who hasn't come across it is going to simply intuit its meaning. ✌️

But I appreciate the explanation! Next time I'll google it for myself, my mistake thinking you would be happy to discuss it considering you brought it to the conversation and said the phrase no less than 5 times before I had asked.

@Theghostofkeithmoon @-wc- @Vyacheslav333 The internet tells me that Dual Audio is a function on Samsung manufactured products that allows the user to connect their device to two different sets of bluetooth speakers or headphones/earbuds.

A loong time to "catch up" because the state of the game (DD2) now is a disaster. If (and its a big if) Capcom resolve the various issues DD2 have right now is preferable get it maybe in 6-8 months with discounts. Maybe.

And yes, as a big fan of the first DD im VERY upset with Capcom right now and very worried for the next Monster Hunter too.

@-wc- I actually went back to the game after this article and managed to beat the boss I'd been stuck on a year or more ago, in a couple of attempts... OK, so I may continue with the game.

I love the first game and the second is different enough that I can still go between both. Highly recommend at this price. I don’t mind the mtx in the second one as the lack of eternal ferrystones means you are on foot (which is the point but dark arisen spoiled me. Sometimes I forget the game didn’t launch like that).

@The-Chosen-one It's a one player game. There is kind of an online element where you can use other people's pawns (the npcs in your party.)

@Ryu_Niiyama I'm sure I won't find the microtransactions intrusive, but I vote with my wallet. I don't like being nickel and dimed so I'll wait.

I love the first one. It's a great RPG.

@GrailUK If that is your stance you may want to wait to see if they do a DLC expansion like Dark Arisen. If so they may bake in some easy mode DLC again.

I am just having fun exploring and trying out people’s pawns (well maybe not…don’t bring that sickness to my world you plague carriers!). I’m a hoarder in DD games so the items I got in the deluxe edition just help strengthen my stores. I haven’t seen anything that a person needs to buy via mtx though. Checking pawns for red eye and headaches. Talk back and meet the Brine.

Maybe i didn't give it enough time, but I purchased this on switch. I couldn't get into it. I have such a backlog on switch. The wait until 2025 for the successor is fine by me.

I adore this series. Having a great time with the second game. If you can deal with some jank, ya gotta get this. That price is a steal.

@Ryu_Niiyama yeah the mtx are not intrusive at all. You need to go to the store to get them...
I think the problem is that review copies came with a PR blurb stating that mtx would be coming at launch, and seems no one mentioned them in reviews. I am pretty sensitive with begs in my games. I stopped buying MK games because of the begging. Games are where I go to escape that trash. So the fact that I haven't even raised an eyebrow playing DD2 means they're pretty innocuous.

@CorvoRevo on PC? Cause I've had zero issues with the game on PS5.
I'll admit it cracked me up for a while to see PC Master Race types spend three grand on a PC that can't run new games...but it's getting sad now.

@GrailUK you literally don't need to buy them - they don't impact anything - you don't even SEE THEM unless you visit the game store - they aren't even advertised in the actual game. This is a game that probably benefits from them being a thing because it will help fund/recoup the actual game itself since it is faily niche. Being upset about this is such a nonissue and (G)amer blown out of proportion created problem.

@hippoeater Like I said, I'm sure I wouldn't find them intrusive, but I'm not going to bend over and let them do it. It's not about the game, it's about the practice. It's a shame so many are happy to let it pass.

The day/night cycle piques my interest. Added it to the backlog.

30 minutes of being chased by janky wolves, gathering mushrooms, and constant chatter from my soulless wingmen and I'm about to bounce again 😂 this just isnt my kind of game. I'll try to get a few quests in before i put it to bed for good but something about this particular school of design just kind makes my nose run. ✌️

@LikelySatan I know Japanese well enough to talk about the quality of localizations of Japanese media, and the quality of Japanese localizations of non-Japanese media. And, you know what? They sucks. I haven't come across a single localization/translation that I could rate as «good» yet.
Yes, I love Japanese voice-overs, but it's not the only reason why I choose them. I play with JP voice-overs ON 'cause I want to check how accurate localization/translation is... And I keep finding stupid errors/mistakes/unnecessary changes in the localized/translated script. You can't imagine how it annoys me. Especially because I have an interest in foreign languages. Not just English and Japanese. Stop acting like the Japanese voice-overs will be chosen by weebs only. Need I say or remind you that the voice acting industry in Japan is currently the best in the world? Seiyûs' names are known worldwide. They can voice their characters 'till their own death. And they will do it, in most cases. Also, they aren't voice actors only. They are singers/narrators as well. While English voice actors/actresses... Most of them are nonames. Like Bayonetta's original ENG voice actress, for example.
