Hopefully Chris Pratt keep voicing Mario movie version.
And it will be better it has video game version from their movies as well.

let's hope those movies are good for the actual RIGHT reasons rather than "the reasons that just make a lot of money"

Well that's depressing.

Pratt might be in the Mario voice roll for the next 10+ years. It was the right call for the casting choice and for Martinet to step down. Same could be said for the newer games. That said, it feels like the boring safe/corporate pick.

Considering we’re getting Despicable Me 4 this year, yeah, I’d say more Mario films are a given. Illumination won’t let it end as long as they keep making money.

Given the Mario movie was a massive success that's pretty obvious.

Feel like it'll probably take a lot for me to bother watching any of them though. Maybe if they get someone decent to do like a Fire Emblem or Kid Icarus one but as is not seen the Mario movie, no intention of seeing the Zelda movie, and I'm not really sure there's much of anything they could reasonably do I'm likely to be that curious about. Kind of part of the issue with most Nintendo games having virtually no plot.

They should have chose me for Mario's voice to be honest, but I'm happy for him.

@Lizuka Zelda, modern Metroid, Splatoon, and pretty much their entire catalog of action games and rpgs from FE, Xenoblade, Earthbound and the like have virtually no plot?

@GinMiguel Zelda, Metroid, and Splatoon's plots are paper thin, certainly not enough to really make for an interesting script on film (and honestly even on its own merits no part of me has ever at all cared about the Splatoon single player), and most RPGs run into the same problem from the other end to where trying to adapt them into another medium pretty much renders them unwatchable because of just how much you have to compress to fit a reasonable run time.

Plus even in my own post I said "most" and like yeah, even granting the ones you named you've got things like Mario, Kirby, F-Zero, Animal Crossing, ARMS, and Donkey Kong that have virtually nothing to work with. Unless you want to count Kirby vomiting random nonsense that never affects anything onto pause screens in side modes and calling it a story anyway.

@Lizuka Have you actually played any of these games? I mean, they're obviously not Dostoevsky or Kafka or even Stephen King, but they have enough meat to fill an hour-and-a-half popcorn movie.

@CazSonOfCaz I mean, sure, it's just personally hour and a half popcorn movie isn't a thing I'm particularly interested in. I want something with some meat on it and the only way you're getting that from a Zelda movie is if they basically just make it up whole cloth.

Cool, I'll check out every single one unless they suddenly start screwing them up. But so long as Nintendo is involved I'm not too worried.

One thing Nintendo often can’t be accused of is milking content with a lack of quality. New Super Mario Bros and modern Pokémon are about the only time I’ve ever felt actively fatigued by Nintendo series. I’m already fatigued by their movie push. The movie industry is killing off actual talent in favour of this dreck.

So about the Zelda movie, I watched Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. It’s not a complete dud but it’s definitely the worst of the new movies. It stole all its set pieces from Horizon Forbidden West and the female character was just there for decoration. It also didn’t have as much personality and vision as the previous ones.
This is not giving me much hope.

@Lizuka I'll acknowledge that you said most, but I wasn't referring to adaptations. If you're suggesting the classic Zelda's and classic Metroid plots were paper thin, back in the NES and SNES as well as the few odd balls now and then, I won't argue that. And I brought up Splatoon more for lore. I left out their platformers and party games because I know that claim applies to them.
Still, it doesn't really matter if what they adapt has so little or much plot to work with, if they're creating a brand new one altogether for whatever series they adapt.

I'd love more Mario movies but whilst the games are fantastic, the plotlines are fairly bland and all about the graphics and a catchy play dynamic which would struggle to transfer to the big screen. But would still want more!

I enjoyed the Mario movie. I fear the Zelda movie it could go both ways. However it might also work in favor of the games, maybe Nintendo will feel the need to create a bigger story for the Zelda games.

I'm so gutted when they use big Hollywood actors instead of real voice actors. I have to admit that Jack Black did a wonderful Bowser, but I feel that Chris Pratt was just using his regular voice too much for Mario. At least he didn't make a huge impression on me.

Awesome, I really enjoyed the first movie, for what it was. Plus, now that Disney movies are no longer suitable for children, someone has to take their place and nobody is better poised for that than Nintendo.

I definitely feel a Metroid Horror movie could work. Samus and other bounty hunters get called in to investigate a research station that's gone dark or a distress signal by the Galactic Fed.
Kill off all or most the other BHs over the first two thirds of the film and then just focus on an intense game of cat and mouse with an evolved Metroid or Parasite X form.
As long as it is intense and rich in atmosphere and set design you don't need to have an overblown plot or huge cast of characters. The series is fairly derivative of Alien anyway so embrace that.

If they're as good or better than The Mario Movie, keep them coming.

@Axecon they casted someone else to take over for Martinet on the video game side. Kevin Afghani voiced him in the Super Mario Bros Wonder. Pratt will strictly be on the movies or (possibly) anything non-video game related. Chris Pratt and Charlie Day would add a lot of money to development costs.

If it's anything like the last Mario film, I'm onboard for more films and any other stories they want to tell.

I'm excited too! The Mario Movie was surprisingly good and Pratt did a fine job. Hope to hear his version of Mario for years to come!

@progx I knew Afghani was the voice of Mario (& cast) for the games, and he's done a great job so far. It's likely Martinet's contract had expired and the renewal was probably too long for him & his voice.

@Axecon Nintendo created the Mario Ambassador role right after the movie came out and offered it to him. He's helping with the new VG cast, plus attending any event Nintendo wants him to represent them. Martinet is pretty much retired from VA.

@Lizuka you have definitely never played the games you're talking about

Plus the game its based off of doesn't need to be rich in story anyway, they make the story in the movie

His voice acting is hit and miss i hope mario movie 2 be better since everything else is solid but story felt rushed especially more for third act and have less pop culture songs it felt bit jarring you had video game music and pop culture songs.

@Lizuka I don't really agree. Mario's plot is way thinner than Zelda's and the story of the movie was fine (even if it may have had other issues).

There've been plenty of great fantasy films with basic plots. Castle in the Sky (which apparently is a big inspiration for Zelda) would be a big one; it's a terrific movie with a straightforward, Spielbergian adventure story that's no deeper than your average Zelda. A Zelda movie could get by the same way the best Ghiblis do--with a well-realized and engaging fantasy world that supplements the comfortable good-vs-evil plot.

A Zelda movie doesn't have to be--and SHOULDN'T be--Lord of the Rings. Complexity is not necessary for every fantasy tale.

Considering how great the Mario movie is I have no problem with this.

@Lizuka After 10+ years I had to create an account just to respond to this post specifically. Zelda has no plot? Say that to the 100s of theory accounts on YouTube. Nintendo basically released an entire collector's book called "Hyrule Historia" with tons of history on the places, various races, back stories etc. If anything, Zelda is the story people most want to hear because it has mature themes, rich characters and locales.

I'm not feeling too optimistic about the upcoming Zelda live-action movie--just because--but, after the first animated The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which I personally and genuinely consider to be one of the best cg animated films I've ever seen and right up there with best Pixar animations in every way that matters to me, and which is easily my favourite movie based on a video game ever, I am extremely hyped for the next Illumination Mario movie. I just hope they can deliver the same magic twice.

I don't like hearing this from Chris Pratt, all I hear is that they are milking it for everything it's worth, I would probably not think the same if it was someone else saying it.

Yeah, I think we can expect some quite good movies in the next decade. Definitely exciting.
