Last week was a major holiday in Japan, and the Japanese charts brought golden results for Nintendo. This week brings more of the same in terms of chart positions, but it seems that all games and platforms have endured a major dip in sales after all of that holiday splurging.
As reported by Andriasang, Mario Party 9 retains top spot but its unit sales dropped from 144,585 to 37,353; it's joined in the top ten by six 3DS titles, with life to date sales shown in parentheses.
[WII] 01. Mario Party 9 (Nintendo, 04.26.2012): 37,353 (334,821)
[3DS] 02. Fire Emblem Awakening (Nintendo, 04.19.2012): 16,530 (361,790)
[PS3] 03. Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City (Capcom, 04.26.2012): 14,553 (319,505)
[PS3] 04. Starhawk (Sony, 05.10.2012): 12,873
[3DS] 05. Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo, 11.03.2011): 11,260 (1,574,788)
[3DS] 06. Monster Hunter 3G (Capcom, 12.10.2011): 9,105 (1,442,475)
[3DS] 07. Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo, 11.03.2011): 9,045 (1,704,350)
[3DS] 08. Kid Icarus Uprising (Nintendo, 03.22.2012): 7,636 (269,519)
[3DS] 09. Mario & Sonic at London Olympics (Nintendo, 03.01.2012): 4,933 (162,270)
[PSP] 10. Conception Please Give Birth to My Children (Spike Chunsoft, 04.26.2012): 4,600 (44,639)
It's more of the same in the hardware chart, with 3DS once again outselling all rivals combined. Last week's sales are in parentheses this time, and do a good job of showing the major decrease after the Golden Week festivities.
1. 3DS: 46,425 (91,868)
2. PS3: 12,996 (23,478)
3. PSP: 12,247 (20,033)
4. PSV: 6,340 (10,583)
5. Wii: 6,073 (15,789)
6. PS2: 1,212 (1,611)
7. X360: 1,023 (1,420)
8. DSi LL: 819 (1,097)
9. DSi: 387 (814)
Although the drop in sales across the board may have been anticipated, Nintendo can at least celebrate having the lion's share of the purchases that were made.

Nice to see that Conception is still going strong.
Keep it up Nintendo !!!
The Wii sells almost as much as the Vita!? o_O
That's one sales dropp compered to last week. Oh well, no big deal.
VITA? Are you there? Rough week
Dam that is a large sales drop. O_O I think a lot of people were just busy this week with a bunch of parties and graduation parties going on that is what probably caused the sales drop.
Go Nintendo! GO!!
Sorry but isn't Mario and Sonic made by Sega? Correct me if I'm wrong but it says Nintendo is the publisher.
Bet next week Mario tennis open will be on the top 10
387 DSi units were bought last week. Lol.
mario party 9 is a nice spinoff of the series.
should've been named Mario Bash as a spoof instead of being called 9
@Haxonberik Nintendo publishes it in Japan
Vita is going in the clearance bin if something doesn't happen at E3. It is dead in the water right now.
At least Japan are partying like it's 2012,while the UK are partying like it's 2011.
The old XB360 is popular these days and looks like the PSV is in for a price cut at E3.
@Qeuix You can think of it like Christmas and thanksgiving and Martin Luther King Day all rolled in one. Wait. What I meant to say is that this period of festivities is practically the only serious time Japanese have off in the work year so as such it is the time to blow wads of cash on cool things and vacation.
And just like the week after Christmas, folks are all shopped out and enjoying their new shiny things (or perhaps exchanging those things for more preferred things). And depressed to go back to work. That too.
@Haxonberik I think in Japan Nintendo published it for there.
Kind of sad to see the Vita doing so poorly since it is a great product but they just don't have the right games for the Japanese market. Another solid week for Nintendo which is great, there was big drop off but it was all the way around so not really a huge deal. Hopefully next week all numbers will be up.
ps2 still is selling!!
@16 hahahahaha the only reason the DSi/LL is is below is because the 3DS can do EVERYTHING the DSi/XL can where's the PS3 doesn't play PS2 games so they have a reason to buy a PS2 but the 360 has SOME games that would be popular in Japan, plus it's probably a bargain bin system.
watching my eyes on number 2 on the charts
