After yesterday’s ESRB rating for the 2006 release, New Super Mario Bros., it was expected the title would launch soon on the North American eShop.
It appear fans of the DS hit won’t have to wait much longer with Nintendo’s official game page revealing the now classic Mario adventure will be made available this week on the North American Wii U eShop for $9.99.
If you live in North America, let us know in the comments if you’ll be picking this up on release. Also be sure to let us know what other DS titles you would like to see released on the Wii U eShop.

I still play this game quite often on my ds, Brilliant game!
I'll be getting it, just not right away. I wish Nintendo would somehow allow multiplayer for these DS and GBA games... I would even pay extra for that function!
Has NOA abandoned Wii downloads entirely? Come on, Sin and Punishment 2!
GTA: Chinatown Wars for me please!
Out of all the DS games available, this was chosen. Seems kind of pointless as the Wii U can already play 2 clones of this game (NSMB Wii and NSMBU), how about releasing some more Fire Emblem games!
Am I tempted by this? I really don't know
EU please.
Didn't it already have an ESRB rating? Do they really have to submit it again for a different platform?
"Wow, just what I wanted!" -no one
@FLUX_CAPACITOR I certainly agree with your comment. Could this explain the poor Square Enix Virtual Console support in NA? The relationship with the big N and square has been pretty crappy since the N64. FF7 going to playstation certainly didn't do Nintendo any favors.
The gaming industry never ceases to amaze me. I never thought I'd see the day where SE would be working more closely with MS than the grandfather of gaming.
@Grumblevolcano If by "pointless" we mean "unquestionably lucrative because Mario still prints money," then you're right. Face it buddy, this release WILL sell more than any Fire Emblem would, and they know it.
@errantrazor Yes they do, actually. ESRB ratings are only valid for the platforms originally submitted, and re-releases require re-ratings. Which is sometimes a good thing in the case of older games that need new ratings to match the modern refined standards.
@Superryanworld And by "poor" we mean "literally non-existent." sigh Anyway, I doubt that situation exists solely because Mario outsells them...Mario outsells damn near everything, so it's a moot point. Really, the problem of Japan vs. America continues to stretch MUCH further than Squenix, as they currently have literally almost TWICE the total VC games we have according to this chart. All those PC-Engine titles and we don't even have Turbografx out West...WHY? They haven't said a word. Also for what it's worth even Squenix apparently hasn't had a VC release in Japan in almost a year.
@Captain_Gonru - Funny, I just asked my son if he wanted this b/c he saw it in Target a few months ago and said he did. He said no, SM64DS, which I reminded him we already own on Wiiware, but he ssid the DS version is better b/c it gives you extra characters to play as. So now we're waiting for SM64DSU, a port of a port.
Do we get a week 1 discount? US never got that buy 3 get 1deal UK got recently.
Related news, according to the eSjop at least 3 new indie games this week - Nihilumbra, Ultratron and um another one. All are each $9.99 or less. (I'm still annoyed Swords and Soldiers 2 is $19.99 next week, too rich for my blood.)
I'm actually glad. Everywhere I look, this is still being sold for full price new.
Still waiting for Metroid: Zero Mission.
Just the Wii game now and you're got all the New Super Mario Bros you can possible handle, bar the 3DS game...
I won't be getting this (it's actually my least favorite title in the series) but I'm glad we'll be getting more then just Mega Man games this month. No offense to him of course.
If I want to play this—and I do quite enjoy it—I'll play it on the DS. I feel like the DS Virtual Console would be better for games that are hard to find, weren't localized everywhere, etc.
I'm glad they're releasing this on the virtual console. I keep seeing old copies in stores, but I could never justify the price. The only downside is this won't have the multiplayer. My brother and I got such a kick out of that back in the day.
I'll definitely be downloading this!
I don't need this I have it already. I have most everything that I wanted for the DS still. The only DS game that I lost was Dragon quest 5. I don't see that coming in the future. I have always been into VCs but for me I have everything so what's the point.
@MitchVogel @Samuel-Flutter Nintendo is awful about lowering prices on their top games. I saw this for $34.99 new the other day - for a nine year old game. It's ridiculous.
It's like Mario games have become a guilty pleasure. Everyone wants different games to come to Virtual Console, but yet we all play the Mario Bros. games to death and love them. I never had a DS, so I'm looking forward to playing through this.
Wheres the variety. I could think of other games, both Wii and GC, before another 2d Mario game. There's already a Wii U version. How about Kirby epic yawn, Luigi mansion, F-zero, Rogue Squadron, Resident Evil/ Eternal Darkness, Paper Mario.
@sleepinglion
Why do we always have to wait at least 4 months before Donkey Knog games come out?
I'm still waiting for DKC Returns Wii version that launched in Europe in January. In this case I hope it is no more than a 4 month wait. Which means my wait is almost over.
I'll admit it, thats a good deal
@sleepinglion Speaking of, is Star Successor worth getting?
Funtimes with this game, haha i didnt even have a ds back then id use my chicks now im able to dl on wii u awesome ~
And i bet it costs $35 NEW in box at retail, yep digital downloads win this time but ONLY IF YOU OWN a Wii U.
Yeah $250 or w/e it currently costs for a Wii U is totally worth $25 in savings on a DS game... Remind me why theres no DS games on 3DS eShop again?
@Grumblevolcano Only NSMB2 can be called a "clone." The Wii one was a decent sequel, and the Wii U one was a really good sequel.
Also, Fire Emblem is overhyped. I'll take the original NSMB over it any day.
@Uberchu Then get a Wii U. Plenty of great games on it anyway.
@rjejr Mario 64DS is NOT better than the original. Yes, it has new characters, but their implementation is questionably executed, and the overall controls never worked nearly as well.
@Finkrats - Thanks, Ill tell my kid about SM64DS. He needs all his money for PaDZ Mario Ed. anyway.
when is it out in uk
