With E3 on the horizon, you might be expecting some news about certain games you haven't heard from in a while. One we've been hoping to learn more about is Hollow Knight: Silksong. Sadly, though, it seems we won't be hearing anything about this one at the annual industry event.
In an update on the official Team Cherry Discord server (and shared via the Hollow Knight subreddit), the Australian developer has made it clear it has no announcements or blogs scheduled for this year's show.
Although this has upset a lot of fans, at least we know now not to expect any surprise Hollow Knight: Silksong news. Whenever we do learn more about the next game, we'll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, you can check out some new information that was shared by Edge earlier this year.
If you're wondering what all the fuss is about, and haven't played the original game yet - go and do it now. We gave it nine out of ten stars in our review and said it was one of the finest adventures you can have on Nintendo's hybrid system.
How do you feel about this news? Were you hoping for a release date or at least some new footage at this year's E3? Leave a comment down below.

I guess I'm happy they at least warned us. However, I want SILKSONG!
This game can't be as big as Elder Ring yet it still shares the same MIA meme status.
I can’t believe Hollow Knight got a 9. 100% the best game I’ve played on Switch, shame it doesn’t have ‘published by Nintendo’ written on the box.
...Meh, kinda lost interest in this game a long time ago. I was excited back when it was announced and supposed to release in, eh...I dunno...2019?...18?...I can't remember. >_>
These are manly tears!!
In my top five favorite Switch games. I will be waiting with money when Silksong's available.
We’ll know about the CIA’s ufo dealings way before this is released. Literally.
Hollow Knight was amazing so I'm more than happy to wait for them to give it the kind of polish it deserves. The last thing I'd want is a rushed buggy mess; let the AAA industry handle that sort of thing.
If the final product is superior and nearer the creators' original vision, I say: take the necessary time. If you want my shiny coins, I want your polished releases.
I don't care how long it takes. It's ready when it's ready and I'll be there. Hollow Knight is a top notch game. Team Cherry can take as much time as they need to make Silksong as good or better.
@jcboyer515 I normally agree with this sentiment, but in this instance I don't really blame them. A Hornet mode was one of the original game's Kickstarter goals, and it ballooned into Silksong. If they'd gone this long quietly developing Silksong without updating anybody on what happened to that stretch goal then that would be an even worse situation.
Sure, I guess they could've just said "We've decided to turn Hornet mode into a full fledged game!" as an update, without showing us anything, but that's not really any better, and we'd still be in the same position of waiting for an announced game to be discussed further.
What a bummer
You all Hallow Knight fans won't get this new update until I get a new metroid prime.
....until Nintendo announces it during their presentation, then shadow drops it immediately after.
Wouldn't that be swell?
@COVIDberry
I see we feel exactly the same about this news! Team Cherry set such a high bar with Hollow Knight, I’m prepared to wait a long time if needed for a worthy sequel.
Although this reminds me I never finished the game! I drifted away from it after losing to Grey Prince Zote many times in a row.
I just don’t have the reflexes I used to, I guess. Or maybe I didn’t grind enough...
Yall want a new Hollow Knight game by Team Cherry? Play Hungry Knight on Newgrounds
Genuinely one of the only games I was hyped to see at E3. But oh well. Happy to wait for what will inevitably become my new favorite game ever.
Hmm - I'm almost definitely just seeing what I want to here but the tone does almost seem a bit jolly and casual for strolling in and dropping impactful news that will upset a lot of people...maybe he's trolling in anticipation of something? (Or maybe I'm clutching at straws.)
In the year 2029. But really, I rather them take there time, then rush it, It will turn out better that way, and who know's it may be one of my favorite game ever when it show's up.
@Teksetter Hey, there you are! I haven't noticed posts from you or Doctor G in several days (although I did catch one of yours from the weekend today; damn those faulty notifications!). I wasn't sure whether I should initiate "chit-chat" again, or simply let you both be busy.
Yes, I think indie creators deserve as much freedom to delay (or more, to the point) as the big studios. Hollow Knight was so professional and well-realized in the first place...
EDIT: As a young furball, I drifted away from Zelda II and returned when my skill was greater (actually, that may have happened multiple times). When I did finish it — the entire process was just so sweet. Does it ever work that way for you? The most recent example of that for me was Enter the Gungeon...
@sketchturner I find the lack of clarity and conviction in your fandom totally unacceptable. Come on! Why don't you establish a position and stake it out? You're leaving us in doubt...
At this point is just vapor-ware.
Again, nothing to apologise for. But, man, how nice is it that devs can be upfront like that. Still have tons of respect for Nintendo informing us that Metroid 4 was starting from scratch.
Note to big business devs. Please don't take this as an opportunity to purposefully delay a game so you can play the integrity card.
It will be worth the wait!
Keep in mind that this game is only made by three people.. And its only their second release ever. With all the praise Hollow Knight got, and the insane hype around Silksong, I’m sure they want to take their time and make sure it lives up to all the expectations.
That is a shame but glad they let us know! I have gone into all Directs and presentations hoping this would be there and was gutted everytime. Knowing this makes it much better
they should never have announced it as early as they did
Whilst I did enjoy my time with Hollow Knight (not so much the tougher bosses where I nearly rage quit, to my shame). I think I finally got a 'finished it' as apposed to 'completed it' percentage and found the 'end' utterly non-eventful. There was little to no evidence I'd changed anything - it didn't conclude and all that infected stuff was still present throughout the game-map. I thought beating the game would at least clean that s**t up? It was underwhelming after such a though game, too feel no significant effects from the 'win'
Did anyone else experience that? or has a different take. For that reason I'd knock the game down to an 8 at least even though the gameplay was very very good. Game endings are important - a sense of achievement needs to be felt.
Aw how sad, but it's ok
They sure are tapping into all the good will they built up with how fantastic Hollow Knight and it's dlc was.
That being said they still haven't burned through mine! Knowing the quality Team Cherry produces, it will be worth the wait.
When Nintendo revealed it, Nintendo should have never said that it would come soon. Its years ago now! The game was far from ready. They want to make it as good as possible, but there may also be some Covid-delays. Either way, I wonder if we will see it this year. Ah well, one day we will have it!
That's a shame as this was my most anticipated Switch game.
I wonder why they announced it as “coming soon” in 2019 if it wasn’t. I don’t mind the wait, as I’d rather they produce a worthy sequel, but it is a bit strange that there’s more “nothing to announce” than “hey, so here’s the reason for delays.”
It's a good thing I don't like hollow knight, they really ***** the fans over with such an early announcement.
This is the game I most need on my gaming life. Sad there’s still no news but I would wait forever for this title. THE LOVE for Hollow Knight is REAL.
It'll come, and it'll be amazing. I really feel like I should go and actually complete the first game, but the optional endgame bosses are absolutely brutal. For anyone who's actually completed everything in Hollow Knight, is it worth doing? I played all of the main game, but I wasn't skilled enough to beat that true final boss or many of the optional bosses...
This along with Cuphead DLC and Sports Story are at the top of my indie wishlist. All 3 are in a similar situation it seems.
This doesn't mean it won't stealth release at E3!
@theflowergarden Well said! This isn't the normal case of "developer announces a game too early". Hornet was promised as DLC as part of the Kickstarter. At some point this merged into a whole new game, Silksong, so they had to let backers know.
Moreover they said that all backers of Hollow Knight, who already got FAR more game than expected with all the first games DLC, will now ALSO be getting Silksong for free when it releases.
On the flip side: when it was on the cover of EDGE this January I hoped it was coming very soon. Seems not. But they should take as long as they need.
@COVIDberry
Yes, I'm sorry to have been so quiet lately! I'm certainly not avoiding you and the good Doctor G, I've just not spent too much time posting lately.
Given a little time tonight I want to revisit our "chat" and reply properly. There's a game I'm into now that I think you and Dr. G may like, too.
Take your time and do it right. Can't (but will patiently) wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong!
Hollow Knight might be in my Top 10 games of all time.
I just died a little inside... T^T
I'm a little disappointed, but they can take as long as they want, we don't want another cyberpunk/ no mans sky on our hands.
I would love to be able to play it in 4K 60fps with HDR when it does release. The art in Hollow Knight was amazing but the graphics engine in Ori 2 has spoiled me a bit since then, even though HK is still my favorite Metroidvania despite that. That said, take your time Cherry, take all the time.
Sad to hear, but on the other hand, I want this game to be as amazingly deep as the first game and that will take some time. I hope Team Cherry takes as long as they need. And that they get to take well-deserved breaks too.
