E3 will be adding something new to the mix this year thanks to the announcement of the 'Official E3 2021 Awards Show'.
Set to be broadcast on Tuesday 15th June, the last day of E3 2021, this awards show hopes to "determine the most anticipated games of the event." Editors from games websites IGN, GameSpot, PC Gamer and GamesRadar+ will be selecting from titles that appear during E3's four-day event, with the results of their voting being announced during the awards show itself.
"For this year’s event, we are collaborating with editors at some of the world's leading video game media outlets to create the Official E3 2021 Awards Show, recognizing the show’s most anticipated games," says Stanley Pierre-Louis, President & CEO of the ESA. "The broadcast is going to be packed with exciting announcements and reveals, and celebrating innovative publishers and developers is an ideal way to close E3 2021."
As noted above, the awards will have a focus on the 'most anticipated' game from E3 as a whole, and will also showcase the most anticipated titles from each participating publisher and developer.

breath of the wild 2 is a given here then, awards wise at least. potentially metroid prime 4?
I think this is worth a shot. An awards show discussing the most anticipated games makes sense, but I can’t help but feel that AAA titles will take the spotlight regardless.
They always had awards "The Best of E3". So, let's see how good they do with theri categories.
@Dragwhite I didn't knew Nintendo already said those games are going to be in the show! Where is the news of that?
I actually really like this idea, it will be interesting to see if the awards line up with what the public think
It’s been too long since I’ve seen a “Best Game at E3” banner obnoxiously placed on a game’s boxart, as if a great demo/vertical slice reception is always a seamless transition to a great game.
@Edu23XWiiU They didn’t, they’re just speculating
Remember how last time Cyberpunk won best at E3?
Don’t just judge games by their trailers and demos, and wait until they’re out before making these judgements.
Why so many award shows?
Now we can officially say who won E3 without all the fanboy topics on the forums.
Yeah this is cool. The industry could use another high profile award show.
this is so cool! now please nintendo announce that direct
Hey maybe it wont be rigged like the GA.
Well at least its at the end so I can basically ignore it, I don't need some random people telling me what games I should be looking forward to the most
@Bon_Kurei You mean like how the Game Awards lined up with the public's opinion? If I ever hear the words "The Last of Us: Part 2" again it'll be too soon...
@Bon_Kurei Exactly. It will be interesting to see.
Lucky the awards weren't held last year. Cyberpunk 2077 would have probably won it, and look how that turned out. Just goes to show how much weight they carry. Load of nonsense.
And Elden Ring will sweep the awards without any footage lol
The problem with Best of E3 awards is that they are easily misunderstood. They are used in advertising and on box-art (and also by fans) to say that a game is good.
But best of E3 awards just mean, that at E3, that game had the best demo or presentation; that it showed well - it doesn't mean that it was the best game at E3 or that the final product will be a good game. It's not indicative of the final product.
If I remember correctly, journalists hated Arkham Asylum when they tried it at E3 but it was loved when it came out. And on the other side, other games have won Best of E3 and not turned out well. That does not mean that they were retroactively, not the best of E3.
So, although I think it does make sense to have an award for Best of E3, it's not good how it's used - it shouldn't be used in advertising or as a way to promote a final product. The award does not mean a game is good - just that it was presented well. So, we might be better off without these awards if that is how it will ultimately be used.
@Edu23XWiiU they've confirmed the botw 2 news for sometime this year, chances are it'll be E3, nought on Metroid Prime 4 tho, just me hoping tbh
Can't wait to see Elden Ring win anticipation against everything else again.....
This is literally the most pointless thing I've ever heard.
It’s nice for the team that’s responsible for the e3 showing, but it’s really more of a marketing award than a game award.
Most industry "awards shows" amount to self-promotion by the console manufacturers and the "AAA" mega-publishers. If I ever watch them at all it's just to see new game reveals. While I do enjoy some of their products (and agree regarding a potential BotW 2 or Metroid Prime 4 reveal), all too often the smaller studios that have truly deserving games get left out in the cold. I guess the bottom line for me personally is that I don't put much stock in awards shows because they only reinforce some of the hobby's biggest problems, such as annually churned-out IPs and a lack of originality or risk-taking.
Now show me a surprise Shining Force, Advance Wars Switch, or Skies of Arcadia announcement and you'll most likely have my "most anticipated" game of 2021. But there's a reason I'm not holding my breath on that.
Seem pointless tbh.
When is the award show for "Best award show"?
I'm sure that everyone is waiting with baited breath to see who wins the "First to 25 Articles Posted by IGN" Award, between the likes of Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, or any other given "AAA" announcement.
@MasterJay I know, I was being sarcastic hehehe.
Is there a more off-putting combination of words for an award show's description than IGN judges? I certainly don't believe so.
@Edu23XWiiU My bad 😄. Didn’t want someone’s hopes and dreams to be crushed when Prime 4 doesn’t show up
@Dragwhite BotW2 may pop up, but don't get your hopes up. Especially with MP4. So, just expect the unexpected.
@MasterJay No worries man, at the end, it won't be Nintendo's fault if people get mad if they don't show any of that, people should blame themselves, for creating false expectations for themselves and for believing "leakers".
@Handy_Man Always been that way. AAA being lumped with indies
Is this how the industry finally wins awards that normally go to Sony, by having an awards show at the event they don’t participate in? I say this as a very non Sony fanboy btw.
I predict there will be 3-7 games that I think look interesting in E3 as a whole, and all of them will be ignored by the awards.
I bet Super Smash Bros Ultimate will somehow get an award based on newcomer hype.
