@SKTTR I want the opposite, make the game harder, stricter time limits. I felt that even the first and the third game were very generous. You can easily 100% those games. Remove that stuff and it's just another "adventure" game.

As seen in Pikmin 2, you can remove the time limit and it's still Pikmin. It still plays like Pikmin, rather than just another adventure game.

A forced time limit is not the essence of Pikmin, even though the series started with it and used it twice.

I have completed all 3 Pikmin games 100% (except Pikmin 3's DLCs that I didn't like), and I had never a problem with the time limit. In fact, even though I'm a good player I beat Pikmin 1 on the very last day and it was a very tense moment. It's just that I read about many people (mostly beginners) who couldn't get into the series because of it. Many had to start from scratch as the time ran out at the end of the game and I hope you can see that it might be extremely frustrating for those that aren't very good players as it's a hell of a challenge for them to even come this far, and then the game is over, no way around it. I know for the first Pikmin it was intended, to be replayable, to be purposedly short. But I think we can all agree that we want bigger Pikmin games because they are just so much fun to play.

And that's why I just wish there was an easy mode for slower people. It would be easy to make a Pikmin day last double as long so that beginners can enjoy it fully as well. I personally wouldn't play that mode, but I know a bunch of people who would be thankful for its inclusion.

Just to speculate on difficulty, I think it would be amazing if they made an optional daily "Hard Mode" if you could choose to stay after sunset and spend the night in the same area but with vastly different and more powerful creatures.

@Operative2-0 Well, to start, every Bulborb functionally becomes a Bulbear now.

Alone, a force. Together, a force of nature.

@SKTTR We aren't talking about Dark Souls though. I already think the Pikmin games are on the easy side. The first one being the most difficult, but definitely not too hard. All three games are extremely generous.

And I disagree. The entire premise of Pikmin is to plan ahead and solve puzzles in a limited amount of time. That's what makes the games fun, it's tense (in theory). I didn't get that feeling in Pikmin 2. There was no rush. It felt boring at times, and it's certainly my least favourite Pikmin game because of that (and the ugly abstract level design of the dungeons!).

@Octane

Even though the time limit didn't stress me out that much as others (in Pikmin 1&3), Pikmin 2 is still my favourite. I found it more fun because you could either chill or set your own limits (that the game records). The fact that you're free to play with your own limits instead of being restricted by just one option, combined with the content of the story mode is what I feel makes this the best entry in the series all-round, that's all.

The roguelike levels in Pikmin 2 are a matter of taste. I think it gives the game endless replayability, while Pikmin 1&3 stay the same forever. Those who seek a challenge in speedrunning set pieces are surely happy with Pikmin 1 & 3. The ones who can't get enough of Pikmin and want endless diversity are happier with Pikmin 2.

I don't know if I would be "reviving a dead thread" here, but I just got to thinking. Perhaps the reason Pikmin 4 is taking so long is because the Switch doesn't have pointer controls! I did some research, and it looks like World of Goo has a work-around, but I don't think Nintendo would think it's good enough.

They're the ones still pushing motion controls, so I'm sure they actually do think its good enough. I just assume being a game originally intended for Wii U and its gamepad (even if it ended up being the same Gamepad support of the previous game) + the series not being a big enough priority for Switch's first year are probably more relevant. Also, not wanting to overshadow the 3DS game maybe.

Pikmin 4 was put on the back burner in order to concentrate on other games (most recently Mario Maker). I'd guess it might appear in late 2018 or 2019.

Motion controls is something they've been doing for sure, but specifically there's no motion bar to point at the screen. But Nintendo knows their hardware, so I guess they can figure it out.

@CaPPa With most of their games getting released this year (can't think of one for 2018 off the top of my head) we'd better get at least a trailer next year! Otherwise I give up on Pikmin, like actually.

Pikmin3 had perfect controls with wiimote and nunchuck with gamepad as the map. Nothing will beat that set up. Nothing.

@Samus7Killer (Although I disagree) I imagine Nintendo thinks so too, which makes the Switch game all the more challenging for them. I can't imagine they would go back to the original control scheme, but I'd say there's no denying that using the pro controller in Pikmin 3 was not as tight as it should have been.

Hoping they replicate pointer controls with the gyro, though it wouldn't be a deal breaker if they stuck with twin sticks, as difficult as it'd be for me. Either way, I look forward to seeing how beautiful the environments look on the Switch

Dear Nintendo...

I am writing this letter as I slowly descend into insanity. It's been four years, maybe five, or even six. I don't remember. The last time I saw daylight was when Star Wars was still good. Where is Pikmin 4? Or is there even a fourth game? Who should I sacrifice? The neighbour's cat? Maybe just the legs... Cats don't need them anyway, but that wouldn't make for a great sacrifice I take it. I can kill my Wii U, but it's already dead, so I guess that doesn't count either. Unless Miyamoto invents pineapples, then we can kill pizzas. All of them. Pizza Hut 2020, Reggie was behind it all along. Now he's gone. Pikmin 4 is gone. See the connection? You can't hide it from me Nintendo... Not any longer. If the cat ate pizza, does it count? I should as Kojima... ΔΔΔ they're watching me...

I feel for you, Octane. 3 was a mastahpiece, and I feel like it sold decently well. Why no 4, Nintendo?

Disappointing very much. So now we just continue to wait. Can be very frustrating to be a Nintendo fan and supporter most of the times.

I’ve waited.

And waited.

And will continue waiting.

But gimme a glimpse of hope

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

I'd settle for a Pikmin collection on the Switch

When 4 finally does show up, I hope it has a level editor to tide us over to the next one.

At this point I'm thinking I need to forget about it so it can randomly surprise me one day, or I'll keep getting disappointed. The only problem is, when e3 rolls around I can't help but put it on my bingo card.

@Octane Are you abusing your mod powers to bump dead threads for non-existent games? ;P
